badpets Posted January 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I understand there are many versions or types. I have been told by many Leica lovers I should get this lens. But which one exactly is it that I should get? When I guy, what should I be looking? Sorry if this has been cover in some other posts. Thanks.

brianv Posted January 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 20, 2010 I have my "new to me" M8, and will be using the Type 1 Rigid and Type 2 Rigid with it. So far I have only tried a late, near perfect collapsible Summicron with it. At F2: Do not discount the earlier lenses with lower-contrast coupled with Digital Cameras. I'll can post some F4 shots, and some 100% crops if interested.

Jiukuic5609 Posted January 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 22, 2010 The version III rigid is a lot of lens for the money - you can get an excellent copy for under $600 bucks. I did a review on my site with a bunch of sample pics on the M8: Daniel Valente Photography (Leica Summicron 50mm F/2 Review for the M8)
brianv Posted January 22, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2010 I have the Type 1 Rigid on the M8 now, will be taking some shots this weekend. Also will be trying the Type 2 Rigid, 6 element in 5 group. The Collapsible Summicron shown was under $300. Not quite as sharp as the later versions, but I just like it the best. Jiukuic5609 Posted January 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) How is it to mount the collapsible summicron on the the M8, isn't this not recommended. I also like the type II rigid summicron, especially the scalloped silver one, very easy to focus. It has the same optics as the dual-range summicron, which is a fantastic lens. brianv Posted January 23, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2010 The Collapsible Summicron mounts on the M8 just fine, it is not recommended to Collapse it. The DR Summicron and Collapsible 9cm F4 Elmar Cannot be mounted on the M8 or M9 at all. A pity, as my Collapsible 9cm F4 Elmar is a fantastic lens. jaapv Posted January 23, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 23, 2010 The Collapsible Summicron mounts on the M8 just fine, it is not recommended to Collapse it. However, in the real world there is no conceivable objection to collapsing it...
