Snakepottery Posted January 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) As I now have a nice clean M8, I was looking to see if I could get a screen protector for it. I have used the GGS pro hard glass one on my D-Lux 4 which has been very successful but can't seem to find one for the M8. What do others use? Or nothing at all? Ta. Rolo Posted January 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2010 but can't seem to find one for the M8.What do others use? Or nothing at all? Ta. Thy're readily available on ebay from the US. $3.60, plus $4 P&P to the UK. I've sourced two from them and it takes a week to deliver.
Islandmike Posted January 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2010 I bought and use an ES screen protector which does not stick to the LCD screen but is held on by the vacuum created between its gel like surface and the screen. There are no air bubbles and it seems invisible in use to me. I felt safer with this than with glass, which I felt could break and scratch the screen, or damage it (or me). There are no air bubbles and it can be lifted from one corner without seeming to pull the LCD cover - some users have had difficulty with self adhesive protectors removing the cover and exposing the actual LCD. It arrived quickly and was less than £4 including post. ES Screen Protector
bherman01545 Posted January 17, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2010 GGS is pretty nice, but not multicoated. Look for the Giotttos AEGIS SP8250. It is a perfect fit for the M8. Brad
Snakepottery Posted January 17, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 17, 2010 Thanks all for the advice. I have a GGS winging it's way from the States as we speak! I opted for the GGS over ACMAXX only because I have had a GGS and been very pleased with it! The Giotto appears to be no longer available. Thanks
mby Posted January 17, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2010 I'm using GGS, too; overall, I'm most pleased with them with one exception: in moderately warm climate (SE Asia, ~≤30°C, rainy season), the glue strip tends to get extremely weak and the entire thingy starts to shift, leaving a significant trail of residue while doing so. Just received a replacement last week, hope that it was only an issue with the previous batch... Best regards, Michael P.S.: Leica CS recommends alcohol for cleaning of the screen which worked extremely well!
