microview Posted January 15, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) "M9 waiting list now cleared. Good availability" is the claim at Kingsley Photographic Limited. Haven't followed this through (one of the luckier ones, thanks to Leica Mayfair, London, some time back). Red Dot were talking about "March – maybe" last time I spoke to Ivor, just before Christmas.
Advertisement Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hi microview, Take a look here can it be true?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jager Posted January 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2010 Er, well, the multitude here still awaiting their M9's would clearly suggest the lack of truth in that statement.
Shootist Posted January 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2010 IMHO it is a case of that dealer clearing there waiting list and now have some, 1-2-3, M9's on there shelves looking to sell them. I suspect this to be the case with some other out of the way, not main stream, dealers.
andybarton Posted January 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 16, 2010 KIngsley are in central London. Hardly "out of the way"
Guest Essemmlee Posted January 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 16, 2010 I have just spoken to the shop and can confirm that there is no more availability than any other outlet. The sales blurb on the web site is just that - sales blurb. Interestingly, the chap on the phone claimed he could circumvent the system by going directly through the Leica rep. I had to give him a large deposit and I could have it in 2 weeks. I thought this might be a saturday part timer speaking but I heard him clarify his comments with another more knowledgeable staff member. Their generous offer was declined as their credibility was completely blown.
andybarton Posted January 16, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2010 I have bought from them a couple of times, and always found them to be knowledgable, fair and honest. I would buy from them again. Why they would claim to ge able to circumvent the system for a complete stranger over the phone is very odd.
nippa Posted January 16, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Things may be getting better. I enquired about an M9 last Monday and a black version arrived at the (mainstream ) Dealers on Wednesday. Personally I found the shiny black paint rather garish so I've decided to see the grey finish before making a final purchase decision.
georgio Posted January 16, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2010 I had to give him a large deposit and I could have it in 2 weeks. I just hate it when dealers take a large deposit in situations like this. Incase the buyer does not show up anymore, the shop can sell it in no time to somebody else. Shootist Posted January 16, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 16, 2010 KIngsley are in central London. Hardly "out of the way" You took my comment out of context. Not that the dealer is out of the way or in some small township with little traffic but that is it not one of the major dealers of photographic equipment like B&H is in the states and ffordes in Scotland and whatever big dealers there are in London. nhabedi Posted January 16, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 16, 2010 Interestingly, the chap on the phone claimed he could circumvent the system by going directly through the Leica rep. I had to give him a large deposit and I could have it in 2 weeks. Funnily, I heard the same comment (minus the deposit) from a dealer in Hamburg yesterday. It wasn't the large Leica dealer everybody knows but rather a medium-sized shop that usually sells Nikon and Canon SLRs. I'm not in the market for an M9, but I saw they had a grey M9 and asked if it was for sale. He said it was their demo unit, but that he could get one "very quickly" if the buyer was "really interested" (whatever that means). He said it was about "knowing the right people". Go figure... BTW, he also said that they already sold "several" M9s this year (which is only two weeks old) and a lot last year. Given that this is not a typical Leica shop (and there are a few in Hamburg) I think it shows that the M9 is indeed quite a success.
microview Posted January 16, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted January 16, 2010 I have bought from them a couple of times, and always found them to be knowledgable, fair and honest. I would buy from them again. Indeed; it's where I bought my M8, as they were easy about a morning's trial with the camera around London (unlike nearby Classic at the time – this was well before Ivor set up on his own as Red Dot). However, as I was not au fait with card pricing I was charged £65 for a 2BG Fuji SD, and when I later checked the company's web price (not to mention finding other far cheaper online suppliers) and went back to the shop, I had a devil of a job to get them to offer any rebate. It's put me off going there again.

viramati Posted January 17, 2010 Share #13 Posted January 17, 2010 They are leica dealers but not so well known which can be good. I bought brand new 50 lux from then just before Christmas when none of the larger dealers or even the Leica store had one.
