Robinandcamera Posted January 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I'm looking to order a lens from Ffordes, new. I'm wondering will I get a passport warranty, are they an official dealer? I'm assuming not, as they don't come up on the Leica website. I was just about to click order and then I thought I'd better check! They're closed today so I can't ask, forgive my impatience. Thanks

marknorton Posted January 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2010 They're in the middle of nowhere, probably under several feet of snow at the moment. Recommended dealer though, along with Robert White and Red Dot Cameras.

andybarton Posted January 10, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 10, 2010 Ffordes are cheaper on this ocassion though. It's worth speaking with Ivor if that's the case.
cliffp Posted January 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 10, 2010 Ffordes are excellent in my opinion. I bought a new lens from them which came with all the correct paperwork. I also bought a secondhand Frankenfinder for a bargain price (£450) and it was in 'as new' condition so I am happy with them as a source of secondhand goods based on my limited experience. Robinandcamera Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted January 10, 2010 It's worth speaking with Ivor if that's the case. Good point, they are £270 dearer in this case though (50mm 'Lux), pretty big difference. I suppose its got to be worth asking

Robinandcamera Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted January 10, 2010 You think you will get a 50mm 'Lux any time soon from any dealer? Mike ? Seems to be listed as in stock most places I have looked.
marknorton Posted January 10, 2010 Share #14 Posted January 10, 2010 Richard Caplan are showing that lens for £2500 at the moment; ffordes £2000, RDC in the middle. With the new year price rise and the VAT rise and the reported supply shortage, who knows what you will get one for and when. Richard Caplan's pricing is heart stopping. £7200 for a Noctilux. Gulp. Difficult to think of any product which rises so inexorably in price as Leica lenses. I paid £1250 for a 50mm Summilux in 2006 and £1500 for an old Noctilux the same year. andybarton Posted January 10, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 10, 2010 50 'luxes are on back order worldwide. No one has free stock, from what I understand.
wattsy Posted January 10, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 10, 2010 Difficult to think of any product which rises so inexorably in price as Leica lenses. I paid £1250 for a 50mm Summilux in 2006 and £1500 for an old Noctilux the same year. Indeed. As recently as 2007 I paid £1100 for a brand new (with passport) black paint 35 Summicron. Three years down the line and the bog standard version now has an RRP in excess of £2000. To be fair, the cost of a lot of camera gear (and other more important and far less discretionary stuff) has also risen quite sharply in recent years. scc Posted January 10, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 10, 2010 ? Seems to be listed as in stock most places I have looked. I've found exactly the opposite. Where have you looked?
Robinandcamera Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #18 Posted January 10, 2010 I've found exactly the opposite. Where have you looked? I've just been looking at the usual uk sites, but they don't say out of stock, they tend to show 'add to basket' buttons still, so was assuming they were in stock. I wasn't aware of the back order issues, i'm not on the forums too much . Guess I may be in for a wait then.
marknorton Posted January 10, 2010 Share #19 Posted January 10, 2010 Well, I've just been able to "order" 99 such lenses from ffordes. Their web-site is not up to doing real-time inventory checks, an order placed online is more a wish list than a confirmed order...
