jsrockit Posted January 17, 2010 Share #21 Posted January 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why not support your regular Leica dealer? It is the way to build a good relationship. Because it'll cost $175 in tax that I'd rather not spend on a camera that already costs too much and my local camera dealer is B&H and / or Adorama... they aren't exactly small. Advertisement Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hi jsrockit, Take a look here USA availability for the X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jsrockit Posted January 18, 2010 Share #22 Posted January 18, 2010 Damn, even Amazon charges tax. Had to go with Dale Photo. What sense is the internet if you have to pay tax!

pappde Posted January 18, 2010 Share #25 Posted January 18, 2010 It said sold and shipped by Amazon and then charged me tax... I don't know why... I'm in NYC... does Amazon have offices in NYC? If Amzon has offices and/or warehouses in the state it is shipping TO, the it has to charge your local taxes no matter what!
markpsf Posted January 18, 2010 Share #26 Posted January 18, 2010 My error re info earlier. It is so rare that I can order anything in California without being taxed that I didn't realize NY is at least equally bad. Here's the Amazon policy: "Items Shipped to New York State Effective June 1, 2008, Amazon.com LLC will begin collecting sales tax on items shipped to destinations within the State of New York as New York has enacted a new law requiring out-of-state sellers to collect and remit sales tax based on advertising. Amazon has filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of this provision. However, as required by the law, we must still begin collecting New York sales tax beginning on that date." Douglasco Posted January 18, 2010 Share #27 Posted January 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My U.K dealer told me today there would be no X1 this week and possibly no X1 next week, he usually has a weeks notice of deliveries from Leica. Grancy Posted January 19, 2010 Share #28 Posted January 19, 2010 Found out today this comment on a a post in DPreview : "By the way: a Leica sales rep, who was also present, said that he expects first shipments of the X1 in Germany by the end of February ..." Held the X1 in my hands today: Leica Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review That's nearly 6 months after announcement, it's really hard to understand such a delay for a high tech product. jsrockit Posted January 19, 2010 Share #29 Posted January 19, 2010 That's nearly 6 months after announcement, it's really hard to understand such a delay for a high tech product. It's not a delay until it goes past the time Leica promised they'd be out. The only thing Leica did was announce it too early I guess, based on people's reactions around here. Things take time to build, package, test, and ship.
barjohn Posted January 19, 2010 Share #30 Posted January 19, 2010 Then it's a delay because they promised in time for Christmas!
jsrockit Posted January 19, 2010 Share #31 Posted January 19, 2010 Then it's a delay because they promised in time for Christmas! Yes, a three week delay and counting...not a 6 month delay. That was my point.
barjohn Posted January 19, 2010 Share #32 Posted January 19, 2010 If it won't be available in Germany until March that is quite a delay.
Douglasco Posted January 19, 2010 Share #33 Posted January 19, 2010 I was told by my dealer that if I put a deposit of £425.00 on the camera (which I did on the 4/11/09) it would be available just before Christmas, now it looks like it will be the end of Feb. maybe if Leica had said the launch date will be February 2010 from the begining it would not have been so annoying. I am not desperate for the camera by any means but I and no dought my Leica dealer would like to have been informed occasionally on what is happening. markpsf Posted January 19, 2010 Share #34 Posted January 19, 2010 By nature I'm impatient and also skeptical of manufacturers (of anything!)...not just Leica. So I'm not surprised and yet still impatiently annoyed. But...so it goes. For me it's giving me more time to neurotically think about whether I really want this camera or would rather purchase a good used Leica lens and continue to sell and save for an M9. My mom's old saying was 'the devil finds work for idle hands" or perhaps for "impatiently waiting hands. Mark
Don Helmudo Posted January 19, 2010 Share #35 Posted January 19, 2010 If it won't be available in Germany until March that is quite a delay. Says who? My last information from my local dealer was end of january/beginning of february.
jsrockit Posted January 19, 2010 Share #36 Posted January 19, 2010 Says who? My last information from my local dealer was end of january/beginning of february. Barjohn is just hoping for Leica's demise again... Though, in this case, he's probably right. Maybe a few will ship in February, but not many. len_gee Posted January 25, 2010 Share #37 Posted January 25, 2010 Here's the specific response I received this morning from the Leica Camera folks in New Jersey: "They [the X1 cameras] are due in sometime this month though I do not have specific dates yet." If you have a question about availability in your country, I suggest you query the respective Leica entity in your country. I've already pre-ordered an X1 from my authorized Leica dealer; I anticipate receiving mine by month's end. -g Greetings, I pre-ordered an X1 from my local dealer. Orginally, they said end of January delivery. Now it is pushed back to end of March due to Leica making adjustments to improve WB and AF focusing speed. h00ligan Posted January 25, 2010 Share #38 Posted January 25, 2010 Talking to Leica USA today - the order desk said first orders will be in the USA mid Feb. When asked the cause of the delay, she said factory or shipping company change - and to her knowledge no further adjustments have been made to the previously reviewed models. Taken with a grain of salt since some have already confirmed the dials are different, but she didn't feel there were any firmware changes. She also said "Amazon is just as likely to receive them as anyone else" and could not provide even basic numbers of first shipment information - suggesting I "just keep in touch with Amazon and don't change to a local dealer" Figured I'd just call the source in this country and see what they had to say, passing the info along. For what it is, or isn't, worth. Sidenote - not an incredibly good experience - counter to my other call to Leica support, this lady wasn't rude, but she certainly wasn't friendly or motivated (considering it was order support). Maybe she was having a bad day.
