I'm so confused as to where to order... one place said they have no one in line, but I have a feeling they might not get much stock, another place told me they have 27 people, amazon probably has hundreds... I'm just trying to figure out the best place to pre-order this late in the game. Which places will most likely get the most stock and have the smallest list...

I ordered mine just a few short weeks ago with Popflash to avoid NY tax. I think I was number 19 or 20.

They were the one that had 27 when I asked. The place I ultimately ordered from won't tell me my place in line but stated that I could get a camera in the first batch shipped. I won't hold my breath.

I wonder where I am on the preorder list.....To be honest every day I don't have it,I feel the gf1 with 20mm is a good/better solution at present. Some amazing images out of that cam for the size/cost.

Stop frontin'... if you were truly satisfied, you'd be on the u 4/3 forums instead of the X1 forum... :)

I pretty much stopped perusing the 4/3 sites because I was getting swayed. I am sticking with the X1 mainly because I don't want another camera than changes lenses. I sold off my DSLR gear and now have a M8. If I didn't have it though I'd buy a 4/3. The Ricoh looks promising but the unique lens feature could fade into the sunset before long.

Assuming the X1 ever gets here, it is pocketable and simply designed which I find refreshing. We all know by now it currently provides the best images because it has a bigger sensor. Best in class. In fact it in a class of its own right now. A point and shoot on steroids.

Honestly jpmac55, I have the M8, the X1 on order and will be buying an Olympus E-P1. I want the E-P1 for the square format, gimmick filters, and as my P&S with good quality...A camera I can take anywhere and if it gets lost or ruined, oh well. The X1 will be a more serious take anywhere camera for me... and the M8 will be used when my main concern is Photography (with the X1 as a backup).

Ditto....just sub the EP2 for the EP1.

Arguing DSLR vs Four Thirds vs Rangefinder vs....? gets old.

Waiting for the X1 gets old too!

Don't get carried away, same sensor as the A12 module for the GXR. GXR is available, X1 not, so the "best in class" attribute is optimistic.

Good catch, Ecaton.

My definition of the "X1 class" is a single lens camera. The Canon G11 may be one it competes with? Not really but hopefully you get my point. The smaller DSLR's also have bigger sensors and some of those clearly rival the Ricoh even with the A12 lens. Certainly better lens options with an entry level DSLR but here we go again, apples vs oranges.

To my way of thinking, cameras that can change lenses are not in the same class as a camera that cannot change lenses. Looking at my short list, I didn't come up with many small compact cameras that rival the X1 hence my decision to place one on order.

Jsrockit - I'm right behind you on that. I have a Canon G9 for bike rides and canoeing (yea, upstater alright) and even the Leica Dlux4 for everyday. One will likely go bye bye when the X1 arrives though. Dopey me bought the Dlux without checking to see if Apple Aperture supported it's raw format. Nope. So I am one of those X1 buyers that will not mind paying for Lightroom.
