Advertisement Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Hi al-fresco, Take a look here Next NW England meet?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted February 7, 2010 Share #42 Posted February 7, 2010 You guys are in for a REAL treat on Tuesday. We went to the IWMN this morning and I have to say that the exhibition is one of the very best photography exhibitions I have ever been to. It shows the full history of Don's career, right from his growing up with the gangs of East London, through all the wars, to a beautiful landscape from 2009 Most of the prints were made by him, too, which surprised me. This is a man who really knows his stuff. I bought a couple of his books, and look forward to settling down with one of them this evening. This is an exhibition worth making a special trip to Manchester for, wherever you are in the country.
Falstaff Posted February 7, 2010 Share #43 Posted February 7, 2010 Yes, I shall try and make it. I assume it still is the coffee shop for 12.30pm. Falstaff
stunsworth Posted February 7, 2010 Share #44 Posted February 7, 2010 Yes, 12:30 in the cafe.
DTD Posted February 7, 2010 Share #45 Posted February 7, 2010 Will have a go – waiting on a delivery though so it may be a no-show. Fancy the exhibition, saw the one at Bradford.
stunsworth Posted February 8, 2010 Share #46 Posted February 8, 2010 Dave, hope you can make it. I saw the exhibition in Bradford, also saw one in Paris in 2002 or 2003. Both were impressive. For anyone who can make it and has an interest in his work it's one not to miss - even if you can't get there on Tuesday.

stunsworth Posted February 8, 2010 Share #48 Posted February 8, 2010 Andy, I don't think so, that was called "My England" and was of photographs taken in England. Even if it was the same one it would be worth seeing again.
DTD Posted February 8, 2010 Share #49 Posted February 8, 2010 It was a different show.
stunsworth Posted February 8, 2010 Share #50 Posted February 8, 2010 I popped in to see this today - I'll still be going tomorrow - and as Andy says it's excellent. The only reservation I'd have would be that some of the photographs are rather poorly lit, but the content is fantastic all the way through. Admission to everything in the museum is free, as is a pass to take photographs - though photography isn't allowed in the McCullin show. The museum car park is pay and display with a flat rate of £4 - as mentioned earlier I parked across the canal in the Lowry multi storey, and it cost me nothing more than the price of a coffee. See you tomorrow.
Black Posted February 8, 2010 Share #51 Posted February 8, 2010 Got to Agree with Andy. I took the kids with me on Sunday and the exhibition was fantastic. I couldn't spend as long as I wanted, as my kids are quite young and it wasn't really suitable (though most of the images weren't that graphic). Brilliantly inspiring stuff and excellently presented. Got to fire off a few shots too, so win/win. Andy - you weren't hulking a massive DSLR and a couple of wee girls, were you??
andybarton Posted February 8, 2010 Share #52 Posted February 8, 2010 Good grief no! I was hulking a bloody great M7 in a black bag and my wife. Kids have long gone I was there at about 11 o'clock.
Black Posted February 8, 2010 Share #53 Posted February 8, 2010 Ooo, a couple of hours before me then. £4 for parking! What a swizz! I parked gratis on Elevator Street, across the road
andybarton Posted February 8, 2010 Share #54 Posted February 8, 2010 I parked at the office and had a nice stroll along Erie Basin
DTD Posted February 9, 2010 Share #55 Posted February 9, 2010 A good day was had by all – and a couple of new faces to boot (I think that's what it says here). Even took a few photos – not on my Leica though, so if you want to see my contribution, the blog's over here: dunniphoto (Ta for the lift home Rolo). Rolo Posted February 9, 2010 Share #56 Posted February 9, 2010 Yep, a worthwhile visit and can see the need to go back for a second look. It was a surprisingly good turn out.
