Next NW England meet?

Taking on board the comments from the recent Manchester and Liverpool gatherings I have been racking my pea-sized and come up with a possibility: Lancaster.

There is loads of stuff on the inter-web, have a look and let me know what you think.

Another which deserves a day out, when it gets warm, is Roa Island and boat trip to Piel Island. I've done the first but it was too rough to cross to the second and therefore I could not pay my respects to the King.

Any other suggestions?

How about a group visit to this exhibition at the Imperial War Museum of the North?

Welcome to the Imperial War Museum North Home Page : Shaped by War:Photographs by Don McCullin

Good idea Steve. I would certainly like to see the exhibition - probably more than once and meeting up with you worthy gentlemen would be nice. Salford Quays itself leaves me a bit cold and I'm not enthused by a whole day spent there. Maybe we could have two Spring outings. Lunch and exhibition at the IWM and then a separate day somewhere a bit more interesting?

OK by me.

What...has Hazel Blears moved her office to the Quays, then?

After Jaqui Smith, we are talking about my favourite politician, here. In the middle of Erie Basin would be about right. She could sit on one of the floats and passers by could throw her a fish or two, along with the cormorants.

I'm up for a lunchtime wander to the IWMN, so long as there's plenty of notice.

Cormorants are notoriously difficult to throw (except for the Chinese ones).

I would favour a flying visit to the exhibition and perhaps a separate morning walk-about round what we must now call The Northern Quarter at some point in the future.

I much preferred Salford Quays when it was Manchester Docks and was full of ships and the people who worked there were not mainly in iT. :(

Tuesday 9th would be OK with me, at present.

I am going to suggest the Grand National again. 10 April this year. But this year, I am going to suggest that tickets for the cheap area in the middle are bought before the day (if they're still available)

Andy, what would be the best time? 12:30? Obviously it's a while off so there's no need to make a firm decision now.

I don't think I'll bother with the National, not my sort of thing - I'm the man who once went to a casino and got bored after 10 minutes.

Tuesday 9th is blank in my diary at the moment but that means nothing, given the present turmoil. Someone needs to grab the swinging helm, before the good ship RM strikes the rocks and I seem to be one of only two folks on the upper decks who holds a skipper's ticket. :(:cool:
