jsrockit Posted January 11, 2010 Share #21 Posted January 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) my opinion is not to touch an m8. 2 problems 1. price, even thought you can buy them relatively cheaply, they're still thousands of dollars. assuming you already have m lenses, you will need to buy ir filters for every lense, or you can swap ir filter for whichever lens you're using. if you don't have m lenses, they're not cheap to buy, which is ok if you're going to buy an m9 in the future, but what will you do with the ir filters once you get the m9? most likely sell them. 2. not full frame, instead of buying having a 35mm lens, you've got a 47mm lens (approx). instead of having a 50mm lens, you have a 66mm lens. ok, so you use 35mm as a 50mm lens. what happens if/when you buy an m9. you have to buy a 50mm lens for that focal length. basically, all the rubbish of not using a lens for its designed focal length. plus, you're paying a lot of money for an out of date camera. m8 just does not appeal to me at all. it might appeal to you, but these are my views. Well, for many of us, the M8 is the only digital M we can (or want to) afford. I'd rather use a weak M camera than a great DSLR. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'd rather use a weak M camera than a great DSLR. i see your point. i can't speak for you obviously, but i wouldn't be able to enjoy shooting an m8 just because of the crop factor alone. i would hate it. i have a dslr, and i hate shooting that with the crop factor. but i guess when there is no choice, then there is no choice. There are cheap wide angles on the market (VC) and plenty of decently priced 35mm-50mm lenses from many manufactuers. I only went there once and had a horrible experience, won't go back. For me Photo Village was hard to find but, I was looking for a store at street level, but wonderful.
