Why are my lenses not listed in Manual lens mode?

Listening to the video Michael Reichmann did with the folks at Leitz, I heard it said that the manual lens selection screen listed ALL lenses even a rare version of a lens from years ago. Yet when I check it on my M9, I don't even find any of the Summarit lenses, the 2.5 lenses listed. And model nuimber from another lens of mine is not listed. I don't understand why this is. Any ideas?

Every modern Summarit is 6-bit coded, no real need to include them. You will notice the 21/24 Summilux and 50/0.95 Noctilux ASPH excluded as well.

Yes, the Leica rationale for providing the lens selection menu is to be able to support uncoded Leica lenses. That means any lens which has been introduced since the M8 was launched will already be coded, so in addition to the Summarits and the 3 Daniel lists, the 24mm Elmar, the 18mm Super-Elmar and the 28mm Elmarit ASPH are not in there either.

The one exception is the WATE which has always been coded and has always required a manual focal length selection because there is no coupling between lens and camera.

11816 is listed in the camera.

HI Mark

Actually, with the WATE there is no need to do a manual selection - the only reason for doing it is to get the correct focal length in the exif information - the same correction is applied for each focal length (as I understand it).

It makes the WATE so much more useful on the M9, in that you only have to think about changing the focal length on the frankenfinder (if you're using it).

P.S. the super Angulon 21mm is missing because it isn't recommended on the M9 - not sure whether that's to do with form or function.

It works but the symetric of the lens makes the "red corners" not very usefull for color...:D

Please, where do you find these model numbers?

I have the following lenses:

  • Elmarit-M 28/2.8
  • Summicron-M 35/2
  • Summicron-M 35/2 ASPH.
  • Summicron-M 50/2
  • Summicron-M 90/2
  • Elmarit-M 135/2.8

I can't find a model number on any of these!

They are noted quite recognizably. I suspect the differences in correction between similar lenses are minimal anyway.

One more try: Where on the lens can you read the model number?

Or do you have a list linking serial numbers to model numbers?

I have the following lenses:

  • Elmarit-M 28/2.8
  • Summicron-M 35/2
  • Summicron-M 35/2 ASPH.
  • Summicron-M 50/2
  • Summicron-M 90/2
  • Elmarit-M 135/2.8

I can't find a model number on any of these!

Ah, but gentlemen, I have here another lens ... a 50 summicron that seems to be neither coded nor listed. Model number 011 816

One big thing you need to know and remember is that Leica always places a 0 (zero) in front of the real model number listed on the box the lens or camera comes in. There is no rhym or reason for this. But if you are looking at the box for the model number just drop the first zero and you will then have the correct number.

Most of the numbers are listed on my screenshots. Where there are two numbers one is chrome and one is black. With the Summicron 50 there are black/chrome/paint and titanium versions.
