CatWorthy Posted December 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys and gals, I loved to shoot D-lux 4 in B&W Dynamic mode. Now after upgrading to FW 2.1 I just found I have a problem with this mode if I shoot in raw format. As an example, the first attached file was shot as jpeg in B&W Dynamic mode. No problem here. The 2nd file was shot in raw using the same mode and it looks fine on camera. This yellowish hue happened only after the conversion to DNG format with Adobe DNG Converter, which used to work before the FW upgrade. Heck, now it isn't even B&W anymore. I rule out the white balance as the source of problem since it doesn't happen if I shoot in jpeg or in other mode (white balance = auto in this example). Anyone else experience this problem? Thank you.
Advertisement Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Hi CatWorthy, Take a look here 2.1 FW problem?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted December 30, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 30, 2009 First things first, why not update to 2.2 - who knows if they found another issue besides the localization. That said, I experienced something similar but in my case it was blue... hmm.. i'll try more today and see if i get similar results.
h00ligan Posted December 31, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2009 I shot in B/W dynamic today and my raw files came out EXACTLY like yours, yellow. Some of them did the same thing as last night - blue. Definitely the auto wb info is not properly being stored or something. Make sure you call Leica, I will be too. Bug! ** on the upside, lightroom's auto seems to be doing a good job sorting it out - but what a pain to have to do it - can we batch process wb in lr? edit, you're right, they do look fine on the camera - but we only see them in bw on the camera. Are you sure the conversion is the problem? I'll import through C1 (never used it before) and see what happens.
CatWorthy Posted December 31, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 31, 2009 Thank you for your reply h00ligan. Your confirmation means it's definitely a bug. This problem can be worked around, but as you said, it's a pain doing more work in PP. How do I contact Leica?
regedit Posted December 31, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 31, 2009 it's not a bug, it's the way that Leica generates dynamic B&W by applying a green filter. D B&W it's kind of artistic mode, therefore RAW image is distorted to generate that contrast on B&W. I'm not sure, but I guess is also in manual. anyway, it's a well known and discussed problem, so don't fire up. If you want to use the raw also, shot in standard B&W and generate dynamic contrast from you RAW processing software.
