hammam Posted December 7, 2006 Share #41 Posted December 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Let me correct this. It's even scarier than what I thought. This is how Leica offers you to register your M8 on their site: « Dear LEICA M8 customer, below, you can register yourself. Your benefit: You will receive 2 LEICA UV/IR filters from us for free which will be sent directly to you. If your LEICA M8 has already been delivered to you, please select: If your LEICA M8 has not been delivered yet, but you have payed the full price in advance up to December 31st, 2006, you can pre-register yourself. To do so, please select: » So, the Dec. 31st deadline has to do with the filters after all, and nothing to do with a rebate. Read the above carefully, It means that to be eligible for two free filters, you either have to have received your M8 by Dec. 31st (serial number required) or to have pre-paid in full before Dec. 31st (receipt from you dealer required.) Otherwise, no free filters. What if I receive my M8 in January? I have ordered it at the beginning of November, before the whole mess with the magenta cast and the banding and what not came to be widely publicized. I had no idea at that time. So, that's what it all boils down to? If you want your free filters, pay your M8 in full immediately, and then wait for delivery some day. As for a 30% rebate on a lens, I think it's a hoax. Advertisement Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Hi hammam, Take a look here 30% off Lenses? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Peter41951 Posted December 7, 2006 Share #42 Posted December 7, 2006 As I posted before, it seems to me the pre-paid registration is there to ensure less delay in getting your filters. You seem to be having difficulty confirming the 30% rebate. Have you tried faxing Leica/Solms?
canlogic Posted December 7, 2006 Share #43 Posted December 7, 2006 Supposedly if you have received or have paid in full for your camera by Dec 31 you will receive a letter from Leica offering you 30% off on a lens. Don't know if it is true or not.
j. borger Posted December 7, 2006 Share #44 Posted December 7, 2006 Some people seem to think they can order 2 filters for free to be send to them in advance without giving Leica the official guarantee they even buy the m8 (by paying for it!!) Ask yourself: which company would do that for customer service:rolleyes: The 30% was never officially .. only off the record ....
jonoslack Posted December 7, 2006 Share #45 Posted December 7, 2006 I had a reply from David Bell within 90 minutes of start of business which is welcome. Hi there I emailed them and got a quick response from someone called Nobby (clarke?). It was brief, but polite, and like yours, said that I would get a letter after I'd registered on the website (which I have). I can't see any reason to criticise them over any of this stuff yet - the 30% offer is welcome (although, it's not a big deal - basically they're going to sell them direct to us at the price they would normally sell them to a dealer). I do hope we can pause a bit for the new lens offer - I guess I'm not alone in feeling a little tight after a body and some lenses!
carstenw Posted December 7, 2006 Share #46 Posted December 7, 2006 As for a 30% rebate on a lens, I think it's a hoax. Not quite. Several of us have had our *dealer* confirm the deal. Perhaps this is just the issue which separates the great dealers from the poor ones. The poor ones think about the lost sale, and keep mum, and the great dealers realise that the happier you are, the more money will come their way eventually anyway. Perhaps it would be informative to collect information on which dealers have passed on information re. the 30% deal, and which have specifically not. It might also be useful to write a letter to Leica (local or Solms), and state that your dealer has not made this offer available to you. For the record: - Leica Berlin (a.k.a. Leica-bei-Meister Berlin) has confirmed the 30% lens offer. Anyone else?
canlogic Posted December 7, 2006 Share #47 Posted December 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had an email from Roger Horn head of Leica USA. He would not confirm anything. My dealer had informed me about the 30% but then after talking with Leica backed away from it saying that even Leica USA didn't seem to know what was going on. carstenw Posted December 7, 2006 Share #48 Posted December 7, 2006 Okay, it seems like it is just taking time for the confirmation or denial to trickle down the pipeline then. Sooner or later everyone should get one or the other. It is unfortunate that people have to decide whether to make the full payment or not at the same time though. jlm Posted December 7, 2006 Share #49 Posted December 7, 2006 popflash passed on a letter signed by Roger Horn confirming the 30% lens discount for those who by december 31 have paid for and received OR paid 100% for and not yet received.their M8. Lens available directly from Leica.
hammam Posted December 8, 2006 Share #50 Posted December 8, 2006 Some people seem to think they can order 2 filters for free to be send to them in advance without giving Leica the official guarantee they even buy the m8 (by paying for it!!)Ask yourself: which company would do that for customer service:rolleyes: The 30% was never officially .. only off the record .... This remark is ludicrous. Who said anything about not giving Leica a guarantee? What about the order form? What about the deposit? Who said anything about sending the filters "in advance." Leica can wait until the camera is actually delivered and paid for. We're not talking about ordering the filters, here, we're talking about registering in order to be eligible for the free filters. Why put a Dec. 31st deadline? I really think I don't speak a word of Leica-ise.

Why put a Dec. 31st deadline? I really think I don't speak a word of Leica-ise. I ordered a M8 (and received one 5 weeks ago) without EVER paying a deposit ... so i did not know about that aspect. But it would be quite a hassle to count that in too. And yes .. it would be in advance if your M8 is not shipped BEFORE february .. there are people on waiting lists untill March/ April as reported by their dealers! So this would take another administrative procedure to handle. 31 December is end of a financial booking year ...... how about that for a reason for the deadline?? If you read the anouncement on the Leica website .. it says "every M8 buyer" wil get 2 free IR filters .... there is no texst about first batch ot whatever. So you wil not take a risk of getting the filters in the end by not paying in advance.. but you take the risk of not getting some of the first batch, send to earliest cutomers home-adress who registered! I would never pay in advance if i were you btw!
