A question!

Recently I aquired a Mark 1 Leicaflex which is cosmetically very fine. It has required extensive repair work and is now working sweetly. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to switch off the light meter. I know that the Mark 2 version meter was switched on and off using the wind on lever as with the Leicaflex SL but with this one I am at a loss. Thanks.

There's no switch on the original Leicaflex (or on several other cameras of the time, such as the Rollei 35). Since the CdS photocells have very high resistance when there's no light, you can maximise battery life by keeping the camera in the dark when not in use.

Thanks Giordano for the information. I'm new to the forum and still finding my way round. Hence my second posting of the question. You may be interested to know that the Leicaflex plus a 2 cam 50mm Summicron, a mint 2 cam 90mm summicron and a 1 cam 35mm Elmarit came in the package off UK ebay for £255 plus £10 for postage. Somewhat of a bargain! Tony

No in fact in the original Evereadycase there is a place to store a spare battery or to place the one you removed from the camera when not in use.

Enjoy your Mark I Leicaflex !

Thanks for your reply, yes I notice the straps for storing batterys in the ER case. You may be interested in my reply to Giordano! Regards Tony
