ashrafazlan Posted December 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) So a day ago, I popped in a freshly charged battery into my M8, ready to take it with me on a small island trip. When I turned it on, there was nothing. At first I thought my battery was dead, or the charger was doing something funky. I recharged it and inserted it back in and waited...after a while the words "Sd/5d?" would appear inside the viewfinder, and the frame counter would turn on displaying a full battery and 0 frames left. I swapped the sd card with another one and still the same problem Anyone experienced this before? I tried searching but all results point to threads about which sd card to get Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm still waiting for Leica's reply but if I can fix this without dishing out any cash, I'd be great full

ashrafazlan Posted December 30, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted December 30, 2009 Yep, the firmware's been updated ages ago. I'm also using the same card, and i've tested it on other types of sd cards.
jaapv Posted December 30, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 30, 2009 Start of by cleaning the SD card contacts, both on the card and in the camera.
johnalex141r Posted December 30, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2009 Start of by cleaning the SD card contacts, both on the card and in the camera. With my M8, no SD card, when turned on, after about 2 seconds it will beep and say on the back LCD that there is no SD card installed. The LEDs in the viewfinder flash "Sd"; even if there is a card AND bottom cover is off. Might this help? JohnS.
ashrafazlan Posted December 30, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted December 30, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions, I tried both but still the same problem. I don't think it's a problem with the sd card/mechanism itself, because even without it the lcd, viewfinder and frame counter still remain dead. It's only when I insert one that the Sd error appears in the viewfinder.

ashrafazlan Posted January 1, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted January 1, 2010 Ok, I tried leaving the M8 on to drain the battery. Just did a full charge on it again and I still get the problem. I also tried turning it on without any SD card inside and I still get the Sd error.
Guest mc_k Posted January 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 3, 2010 If you have in the past used those cards on another camera, I would try with a brand new SD card.
andcolor Posted January 4, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 4, 2010 Make sure the card is not locked???
ashrafazlan Posted January 4, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted January 4, 2010 Thanks for the replies. At this point I doubt it's an sd card problem, because i've already tried it with a number of other cards and still get the same error. Heck I get it even without an sd card inside. ashrafazlan Posted January 6, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted January 6, 2010 finally got a reply from Leica Malaysia and Singapore, the only reason they can think of is long life. I don't really know what this means, but they're waiting for a second opinion from Leica Germany..I wonder how long that's going to take
Nicoleica Posted January 6, 2010 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2010 This may be pointless, but have you tried putting in a small SD card (2GB or smaller.)? Just in case the firmware has become 'confused' and forgotten how to handle SDHC cards. If that works, you could then try re-installing the firmware. As I said, this may not work at all, but it might be worth trying.
ashrafazlan Posted January 8, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted January 8, 2010 It didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway Finally got a reply from Leica Germany, they think it's either a) SD slot malfunction or motherboard fault. Either way, both sound like serious problems..I hope it won't cost a fortune to fix
