M8 dead?

So a day ago, I popped in a freshly charged battery into my M8, ready to take it with me on a small island trip.

When I turned it on, there was nothing. At first I thought my battery was dead, or the charger was doing something funky. I recharged it and inserted it back in and waited...after a while the words "Sd/5d?" would appear inside the viewfinder, and the frame counter would turn on displaying a full battery and 0 frames left. I swapped the sd card with another one and still the same problem :(

Anyone experienced this before? I tried searching but all results point to threads about which sd card to get :p

Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm still waiting for Leica's reply but if I can fix this without dishing out any cash, I'd be great full :)

Start of by cleaning the SD card contacts, both on the card and in the camera.

With my M8, no SD card, when turned on, after about 2 seconds it will beep and say on the back LCD that there is no SD card installed.

The LEDs in the viewfinder flash "Sd"; even if there is a card AND bottom cover is off.

Might this help?

Thanks for the suggestions, I tried both but still the same problem. I don't think it's a problem with the sd card/mechanism itself, because even without it the lcd, viewfinder and frame counter still remain dead. It's only when I insert one that the Sd error appears in the viewfinder.

finally got a reply from Leica Malaysia and Singapore, the only reason they can think of is long life. I don't really know what this means, but they're waiting for a second opinion from Leica Germany..I wonder how long that's going to take :(

This may be pointless, but have you tried putting in a small SD card (2GB or smaller.)? Just in case the firmware has become 'confused' and forgotten how to handle SDHC cards. If that works, you could then try re-installing the firmware. As I said, this may not work at all, but it might be worth trying. :)

It didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

Finally got a reply from Leica Germany, they think it's either a) SD slot malfunction or B) motherboard fault.

Either way, both sound like serious problems..I hope it won't cost a fortune to fix
