The_hog Posted December 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I quote mr KM-25 on another thread here: "I agree, the M is a very able hiking / climbing camera, I did the Kautz ice wall on Rainier with my M6 in 07, the battery died from the cold a few days in and I had forgot to pack an extra and just kept on clicking with no meter." This leads me to suggest the following for an Improved M9 and a nice "retro" step back. 1. Put back the wind-up lever (many are buying the Thumbs Up to better be able to hold the camera) 2. Give the wind-up lever it's old purpose of "winding up" the camera for the next shot by coupling the winder to a flywheel and a small generator for making a small amount of electrical current. The lever would of course cock the shutter the old way. By doing this the motor for cocking the shutter is not needed simplifying the electrical system of the camera and getting rid of the whine of the motor. This would of course NOT make the battery totally unnecessarily, but might never the less be able to sustain the camera taking pictures - as KM-25 says - without metering and of course without the screen being active etc. Just a thought, Arni
