I would like to keep my raw files on LIghtrrom and my JPEGS on Iphoto. However, when I plug my camera into my macbook pro i cant seem to be able to upload my jpegs to iphoto. I can only draw both files to LIghtroom and then have to drag the JPEGS to iphoto. Anyone have any ideas that would help Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yes ; but it did not work either when I imported a picture from I photo (no problem) and wanted to get it back after work (of course iI tried with a new name for the picture..) The card shows up as No Name in iPhoto. I then select the JPEG's by clicking on them while holding the Cmd key down. You are then asked if you want to import all or selected.You choose "selected". iPhoto then imports the JPEG's as a new event, which you can name. You can opt to delete the JPEG's as you import or leave them. If you delete them and then go to LR, it will only show the DNG's on the card. Is this what you wanted to do? wlaidlaw Posted December 30, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I should have made it clear, I am plugging the card into my Macbook Pro not connecting the camera. You will find a thousand posts on this forum, explaining why connecting your camera to a computer to download photos is a bad idea and should be an emergencies only procedure. This is particularly relevant if you are using Snow Leopard, as there is currently a bug in SL when connected to an external storage device (SD card in camera), where Finder can lock up and the card in the device is crashed permanently. A good SDHC card reader is only a few dollars. Often Sandisk and Lexar give them away free with a pack of two cards. Wilson Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I mean the pictures allready stored in I photo than moved to lightroom- worked on- and the getting them back . (working with both systems on the same Mac book pro) Ady Ady, That is not going to work as there is no facility to save a file from Lightroom, only to export. LR image alterations are stored/saved in a sidecar file automatically, to give you non destructive editing. Given the way that iPhoto stores its files as an original and a modified image, you cannot export back to the original location. What you could do is set Lightroom as your default photo editor, select the photos in iPhoto that you want to edit and click on the pencil. This then opens them in the import window in LR. You then modify them and export them to a temporary folder. Finally you reimport them to iPhoto. However, I think you are trying to use LR as photo editing software which it really isn't and the above is a pretty clunky workflow. Wilson Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ady Ady, If I am using LR3 beta, which is not too frequently, as I normally use different workflow (see below), I would export them to a temporary output folder and then import them as a new event into iPhoto. After this you can delete or more probably, empty the output folder. I have not really found all the features of the library in LR3 and at the moment, find iPhoto more friendly as a library. I have multiple iPhoto libraries with about 8,000 images in each and use a piece of shareware called iPhoto Library Manager to manage them. My usual workflow is as follows; 1) Insert card into computer either direct or via a card reader. 2) Import required images via Capture One V5.0.1 Pro - automatically backs up DNG's to both a network external HD and a Time Capsule storing archived DNG's with new folder for each day. 3) Convert images, usually to 16 bit TIFF's in C1 and output automatically to output folder for that session. 4) Import TIFF's to iPhoto, which I use as photo library. Sort out keepers and chuckers. Edit keepers in PS CS4 as required. 5) As an alternative to above, I am starting to do some image specific stuff in C1, rather than just a straight bulk convert, in particular, using the skin tones tool, which is pretty amazing.
