GREAT.. so sitting in the restaurant, trying to figure the light out.. but then, having had a couple of drinks I realized it was time to be smart.. flip the think to S mode for the first time ever... you know that S right over the A on the M8.2 yeah.?

Great, idea, I flip the switch from A, figuring I will get SOME kind of JPG, as good as the camera can do with the light there...

You should have seen my surprise when I slowly pressed the shutter, held it down waiting for the close and then remembered... S mode is on the F***** M8.2 - as everybody can imagine, when I released the shutter the Bulb mode closed...

Leica, how could you guys possible get the nutty idea of removing the most useless feature ever on a M camera, I suggest replacing it on the M9.2 with a D mode for "slightly Diminished capacity" - it sounds better than Stupid mode, though in the above case I can only claim stupidity.. and I swear that I really though it was a great time to test the S mode for the first time, for some reason I forgot my new M don't have a S mode, I should never have bought a M9.

Yes, that mode is for pinhole photography. Everyone knows that.

This was deliberately implemented by Leica in order to re-affirm their commitment to ancient values and tradition while at the same time moving ahead with new technology (sort of).

Everyone knows that.

... and I see that on Leica goodies you can buy pinhole "lenses".

No, Bo you didn't forget the mode, just how to get to it. Its now one of the profiles, select it from the SET menu, not the shutter speed dial (which was a stupid place to put a mode switch, IMHO).

:-) Carl, the problem remains, if I did not think clearly enough to realize the S is now a B, there are a snow-balls-chance-in-hell that I would have remembered to find the S mode in the menu. :D

And I do agree entirely, the shutter dial is NOT a place for a mode-setting.

Im going back to figuring out the exposure myself.!

Bo... I know that owning the M9 is a burden :D, but when you have had a couple drinks and find yourself in a dimly lit restaurant, wishing you had a 5DII with a big 85/1.2 lens, set to "P".... remember, your m9+50/1.4 will do something that the DSLR can never do... sit on a martini glass at 1/8 sec. :D

Happy New Year!

Things like this always seem to start out with "So I was having a few drinks" and then "Something went wrong".

Funny isn't it.

That reminded me about an email I received recently......

Of course, in this instance the passenger had pre-engaged 'S' mode, and was able to record an acceptable image with a one-handed shot. :D
