TimF Posted December 6, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anders Uschold's article on the M8 makes for fascinating reading I think. He divides the article into sections to cover how the files are treated in jpeg, Capture One and ACR, which sheds valuable light on some of Damien Demolder's findings in Amateur Photographer. One quote, concerning the 50mm Summicron and files in ACR reads, "The results from Camera Raw are astonishing. I have never seen resolution like this before. From open aperture on, resolution is far above the artifact limit, but doesn't show that degree of fine detail falsification that some Asian competitors used to show". Should be available on-line at http://www.bjp-online.co.uk/ in a day or two - or at your friendly UK newsagent now.

chrism Posted December 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 6, 2006 There is a free two week trial log-in available for non-subscribers. The comments about JPEGs make it sound as if 'the poor man's RAW' approach could be very convenient for those of us addicted to black & white. jonoslack Posted December 6, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 6, 2006 Hi There I really enjoyed it - read it on the kitchen table with a glass of wine. It does bear out the conclusion I'd come to - which is that the jpg files produce the best colour out of doors (I hadn't realised they also had the best dynamic range) . . . . . in most circumstances! Anyway - an interesting and different review, and apparently there is more to come. Definitely worth a two week trial membership.
farnz Posted December 7, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 7, 2006 Tried signing up for the free trial but keep getting bounced despite filling in all the mandatory fields. Anyone else had the same problem?
