Select the folder containing the photographs, then CMD (or Ctrl) A to select all the files, then select menu option Metadata>Read Metadata from files.

A word of caution: yes, it works, but it also removes all your data entered, if you haven't yet saved the metadata to the respective files. So before hitting Metadata>Read Metadata, maybe do Save Metadata to File (Propeller S for the keyboard-inclined).

Just in case: LR routinely asks you for backups, so you could restore everything quickly.

Om my Mac (G5), with multiple images selected ( in Library mode, Select All or Command/Button) the 'readmetadatafromfile' appears to set the est. aperture only on the first file selected - the rest appear to be unchanged. So I have to 'one at a time'.

Any comments will be welcome

That works fine here. The files need to be DNGs. It won't work for JPEGs. If the menu entry says Read Metadata from Files, then this applies to more than one file for sure.

You need to select the files in the Grid View window/area of LR. Selecting them in the thumbnail/filmstrip area does not really select all the images.

I have always had a problem with the way this works. You think you are selecting the images but any adjustments or actions taken when doing the selection in filmstrip area only happens to the one active (brighter) image. The other image are a darker grey then the active image. At least that has been my experience.

Actually I just tried this by selecting the image in the Content/Grid View area and got the same result as selecting them in the Filmstrip area, only the active file was updated. I then went to the Metadata menu item and selected Read Metadata from file, without seelcting any files, and ALL the files got updated.

I also notice that now the real lens name and Max F/stop shows also. Instead of just 35/50/whatever mm.

Except when you 'Delete Images' from the disc, when it deletes all selected images!

Weird - I find that the 'readmetadata from file ' menu item is disabled - unless one has at least one file selected! in either the Grid or firlm strip area!

My mistake. I tried it again without having any images selected and I got the same as you. So It would seem I had at least one image selected when I used the Read Metadata From File menu option.
