sclamb Posted December 24, 2009 Share #21 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought this from Ivor: http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=16_25_57&products_id=1869 The picture shows the DL4 protector but the M8/M9 one looks the same just a different size. Absolutely fantastic fit and excellent protection with no loss of brightness on the LCD. Simon

footsurg Posted December 26, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 26, 2009 I applied the Giottos to my M9 but it got knocked off a couple of times because I used an eyepiece magnifier and a Luigi. Kind of makes your stomach turn when you hear it hit the floor! The eyepiece magnifier pushed the leather of the case against the Giottos. So, I put the magnifier in the drawer for the time being but now the Giottos does not stay in place and is knocked off easily. What's the best way to beef up the adhesive so that it will stay on the camera?

jk52 Posted December 27, 2009 Share #25 Posted December 27, 2009 I am using and pleased with Lexerd's TrueVue screen protector on my M9 and Nikon D700. The application process is forgiving. Follow the directions closely, and you will have no dust or bubbles trapped between the protector and screen. My photography bag for the M9 has an exact fit (love the bag and got the tip about the brand from Sean Reid's website - the bag is "The Evan's Walker" purchased from The Photo Village - Artisan&Artist* Bags). The screen protector gets the rub in and out of the bag. No problems with the protector staying put - no flipped up edges. Smudges and oils wipe off easily with no remaining residue. The fit over the screen follows the boarder of the M9 perfectly. I have the crystal clear type. Photo viewing appears to be as bright and clear as without the protecting film on the screen. I got the Lexerd screen protectors at Amazon.com: lexerd truevue leica m9

rjrose Posted December 28, 2009 Share #27 Posted December 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought the Giottos SP8250 for the LCD on my M8. Within a day it cracked. After about a week it fell off. Also, the black edge does rob a small bit of real estate from the LCD. I went back to using an iPhone plastic screen cut to size. Cheaper, doesn't crack, and no extra logo.

I don't mind spending money on things that matter a lot, but the iPhone plastic screen works for me. Its clear, tough, cheap, and fully maintains the lowish resolution of the M9 LCD. I could understand super crystal clear coated glass if there was something critcally important thats viewable behind it, but as things are its as useful as bolting an aerofoil wing on a Smart car. My M9 with Giottos has been with me this week traveling through London and Italy in the cold and rain and all working perfectly, in and out of my jacket and bags. The Giottos looks and performs like it came on the camera.

brt3 Posted December 31, 2009 Share #32 Posted December 31, 2009 I installed the Giottos today. I'd ordered it from Adorama about 6 weeks back and it arrived a week ago while I was in Baja. It is a very high quality part that seems to improve the camera, not detract from it. Highly recommended!
jamriman Posted January 2, 2010 Share #33 Posted January 2, 2010 Anyone have any experience with Zaggs screens? I have one but have not applied it yet. Thanks. 250swb Posted January 2, 2010 Share #34 Posted January 2, 2010 Anyone have any experience with Zaggs screens? I have one but have not applied it yet. Thanks. ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Leica M8 Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield IMO they are awful. The 'Invisible Shield' is not invisible, but is fairly tough. The problem is the texture which doesn't show up when you are reviewing the image on the LCD, but is aesthetically horrible at all other times. pascal_meheut Posted January 2, 2010 Share #35 Posted January 2, 2010 Anyone have any experience with Zaggs screens? I have one but have not applied it yet. Thanks. ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Leica M8 Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield I used them with the M8. Once they are correctly applied, they stay in place for years. But the remark about the structure is correct. I think nowadays, there are better choices.
jlam Posted January 3, 2010 Share #36 Posted January 3, 2010 I've ordered the Giottos 8250 together with my M9. Will see how it compares against the ACMAXX on my other cameras. The Giottos is supposed to have better light transmission and lower reflection due to the coating (which ACMAXX doesn't have). I can see that the ACMAXX does have fairly strong reflection, more than the LCD itself without protector.
eritho Posted January 3, 2010 Share #37 Posted January 3, 2010 I'm getting scared by reading all those posts around screen protection! I received my M9 only a couples of weeks ago, but I have had 5 different digital cams before that and have never scratched a LCD screen. It looks like everybody here is using some sort of protection? Is the screen on the M9 different from most other? Is it really necessary to put on a screen saver if camera is moved in and out of bag etc.?

I can't afford to keep older models if I want to upgrade.
doug_m Posted January 3, 2010 Share #39 Posted January 3, 2010 The ScreenPatronus protector also works for me. They are cheap and long lasting and can be found on the web. My cameras live in the Leica neoprene cases which may increase the longevity of the protector. I never used another brand so can not compare.
jamriman Posted January 4, 2010 Share #40 Posted January 4, 2010 I bought the ACMAXX based on this forum and it arrived several weeks ago. It is sitting waiting for an M9 to stick to it. My M9 is waiting for my Giotto! :^)
