bobmc Posted December 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I've been trying to get a straight answer from the Customer Service team regarding their use of PACE technology in DXO Pro on Mac computers. I'm very concerned that their software is writing to folders off the root directory which as far as I know, it shouldn't have permission to do! Every time I try to get an answer I get told that nothing untoward is happening and yet I can track that these modifications are happening! (Specifically in /private/vars/folders) Am I worrying unduly? Many thanks for any help Bob
Advertisement Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Hi bobmc, Take a look here DXO Pro. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sandymc Posted December 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 19, 2009 I wouldn't worry about it too much. As of 10.5 (Leopard), /private/vars/folders is the recommended location for caches, both for the System, and users. So DxO is not doing anything particularly nasty. bobmc Posted December 20, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted December 20, 2009 Thanks for the info Sandy - Customer Services were not very helpful, it seems you only find out what a Company is really like AFTER you've made the purchase! Thanks again Bob
marcg Posted December 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2009 I read some very good reports about what DXO can do - especially from Michael Reichman and Ken Rockwell. I tried a trial download but found that even the most recent version 6 was unstable and could scarcely be used - especially as a Lightroom plugin. I then surfed the Web and found lots of similar stories from nay people who had tried the program. More concerningly I also heard stories about a serious lack of repsonse from customer service. I contacted them myself and fond the same lack of response. It was only after several days of repeated requests that they eventually made contact. After that response times were good except that I then found that I was dealing with two separate people - neither of who seeemed to talk to each other and neither of whom seemed pay much attention to the detail of what I was saying. It was a bit like trying to talk to Paypal. Eventually I gave up
