Lens coding thereafter

For those users who sent in their lens for coding at the States, i wonder if their lens got the extra "treatment" of re-callibration after the coding process just to make sure everything is a-ok. During the wait for my lens to come back, the sales rep told me something about Leica re-callibrating the lens which explained why it took so long and $ to get it done. The fact is after the process, i noticed there are some more dust particles than before, which is a bit surprise to say the least, given Leica's reputation. If they did take the lens apart and put it back together again for some reason, i do wish their working environment should be as "dust-free" as possible, true? Any feedback is appreciated.

My understanding, from my Leica rep early in the M8 lifecycle, was that Leica USA checked the calibration of the lens before installing the new mount, and then checked it afterwards to make sure it HAD NOT CHANGED due to the new mount.

I.E. they don't give you a "new" calibration - they just make sure it is in the same condition as received. At least as regards focusing. Can't speak to dust, except that I didn't notice more in mine (done 2-3 years ago).

Jaap - could be. My coded lenses were done "free" with coupons from buying the M8. And since all of mine focused fine both before and after the service, I was not necessarily a good test case.

I also gather Leica service parameters are influenced to some extent by the perfectionism of the specific tech involved. Some do exactly what is required - others go "above and beyond" until the work meets their personal standards as well as Leica's.

After talking to the dealership this afternoon, i have decided to postpone sending back the lens till early January. The sales rep said it's the time of year where everything goes crazy and even if they manage to check my lens, it won't be done properly .... he has a point; oh well i got plenty of time since my M9 hasn't arrived yet ;-)
