Waterproof Lumix

Should be ok for what it is. At one stage they had a reputation for going wheels up in the water but I am sure they are right now.

This guy writes decent free reviews, and gives you a rudimentary comparison to its competitors like the Olympus which has been out for a number of generations.

You shouldnt be expecting it to replace your DSLR in an Ikelite housing but for a mess around surface camera (3metres depth isnt going to get you to the bottom af a diving pool) or for a day at the beach it is an easy option.

I have a couple of these for sailing and bad weather, although where I live the 2 are usually to be found together! Can't fault waterproofing - provided seals are kept clean - or operation. IQ is not dramatic, but then given the folded optics it was never likely to be. However I reckon it's currently the best all weather option, unless one goes for a better P&S in a housing and that gets cumbersome. I have used a Nikon P5000 and housing, but far prefer the FT1. IQ not far off and it goes in a pocket.

Probably the worst fault is the on/off switch which is tiny and semi-recessed in the top plate.

Hope this helps...

Robert
