Eastgreenlander Posted December 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'ved had my Leica M9 + 50mm summilux asph over 2 weeks now. I bought both new from my dealer. I have notice that the 6 bit coding is not registering on all of my shots resulting in mild vignetting(not that I mind). Even if I shake the camera gently up or down I can see on the info menu that its switching the 50mm detection on and off. Is it the camera or the lens or both? why? should I send both back for warranty repair?

gwelland Posted December 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 12, 2009 Please don't shoot the messenger here: .... first off, I'd check the obvious such as whether the lens is FULLY locked to the right on the camera. With new lenses & cameras it's easy to have a firm hold but still not fully lock the lens in place. I'd also check the lens code sensor on the bottom right of the mount and make sure there's no crud on it. Ditto the code on the lens flange. I'd be VERY surprised if the lens code itself was the problem and there's no link to the lens itself anyway. If neither of these are the problem then you might well have a code sensor problem of some type - maybe a loose/bad connection etc etc. If in doubt, maybe it is time to send it off although I'd probably get a second opinion locally if you can before the hassle of shipping. mweiner Posted December 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2009 Eastgreenlander, I had the same problem and it is described in these threads in this M9 forum: M9 problem with auto lens detection http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/103304-m9-problem-auto-lens-detection.html M9 & Summarit Lenses http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/107202-m9-summarit-lenses.html#post1134060 The last three posts in the second thread pretty much sum up the resolution to my problem.
