Avelino Posted December 5, 2006 Share #21 Posted December 5, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi David, I understand that your offer was for M8's to make your point. However, would you accept to print a P45 file in the offered conditions? Camera is Alpa with Schneider Apo-Digitar lenses. Average file size is 220Mb. Think it should be interesting for your comments and comparisons. Best rgds, Paulo Avelino
Advertisement Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Hi Avelino, Take a look here Leica Forum Archival print offer . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest malland Posted December 5, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 5, 2006 Am I missing something here? It would seem if you want a P45 print made, and want to see how David would do it, you should use his normal service. Otherwise, it's just a shameless attempt to get a print on the cheap. Sorry, but your posting has a shameless air about it. As JP Morgan said to the young man asking the cost of his yacht, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." —Mitch/Lubumbashi. vic vic Posted December 5, 2006 Share #24 Posted December 5, 2006 mitch.... at some point, not to ask a question of price means that either u r multi-miloner and some oligarh, or that u have no intentions to actually buy. there are other people that can afford things they want but they have to mke sure that it is financially comfortable to them cause they are not multi milioners. beautiful sentances and statements about yacht and alike are nice to hear, but money is money and they dont come from your mouth - they come from pockets and vaults and those are not always "limitless". so even of somebody wants to find a way to make high quality prints cheaper - no problems. and for david it can be nice too, maybe this man has alot of photos to print later on. and ya - the combo of alpa is great too. i will get into this too as my wide angle digital camera as soon as i finally have my own digital back. putting on it schneider apo-digitar 35mm will be great and best quality in wide agle digi photography, with super intuitive and pure camera functionality. and i highly recomend to david too to take a look at this puristic way of photography :-))) david not sure u will need this camera (the m8 is much smaller and better snapshooter), but just take a look if u can :-)))))))) paolo... what lens do u use??? do u use the swa model, and do u make up-shifts of your lens? do u necesarly need to use center filter in that case after some amount of lens shift? otherwise, i understand that if u dont move your lens, then u dont really need the center filter, and that is good, since u will not loose one stop for hand-held work. davidada Posted December 5, 2006 Author Share #25 Posted December 5, 2006 Hi my special offer was for M8 users only in the interest of the 3040 thread. The studio's normal rate would apply to other jobs. THX
KevinA Posted December 5, 2006 Share #26 Posted December 5, 2006 Generous offer indeed. I thought the claim was it was a match for scanned 5x4 and not MF though. Kevin.

tashley Posted December 5, 2006 Share #29 Posted December 5, 2006 David, this is a very generous offer and I will certainly take you up on it! I had a 36 inch wide print (it was a crop!) done from an M8 file by my local pro lab on an Oce onto Crystal Archive. I thought it was excellent but suspect that it could have been better, due to my processing rather than their printing. If I include a reference print for the tone/contrast and crop/straighten, plus the DNG, I'd then love to sit back and see what you can do with it! I think it's a very nice file... BTW can you take payment via PayPal? Thank you again and best regards Tim

Avelino Posted December 5, 2006 Share #31 Posted December 5, 2006 mitch.... at some point, not to ask a question of price means that either u r multi-miloner and some oligarh, or that u have no intentions to actually buy. there are other people that can afford things they want but they have to mke sure that it is financially comfortable to them cause they are not multi milioners. beautiful sentances and statements about yacht and alike are nice to hear, but money is money and they dont come from your mouth - they come from pockets and vaults and those are not always "limitless". so even of somebody wants to find a way to make high quality prints cheaper - no problems. and for david it can be nice too, maybe this man has alot of photos to print later on. and ya - the combo of alpa is great too. i will get into this too as my wide angle digital camera as soon as i finally have my own digital back. putting on it schneider apo-digitar 35mm will be great and best quality in wide agle digi photography, with super intuitive and pure camera functionality. and i highly recomend to david too to take a look at this puristic way of photography :-))) david not sure u will need this camera (the m8 is much smaller and better snapshooter), but just take a look if u can :-)))))))) paolo... what lens do u use??? do u use the swa model, and do u make up-shifts of your lens? do u necesarly need to use center filter in that case after some amount of lens shift? otherwise, i understand that if u dont move your lens, then u dont really need the center filter, and that is good, since u will not loose one stop for hand-held work. Don't understand why Mitch is so nervous abt my question. I believe that $150 difference will not change anybody´s life in this forum where cameras and lenses are the prices that we have here. I only thought that it would be interesting for David to comment on the comparison to us in the forum, as this is a good MF digital back. I am in the forum because I am also a Leica user, but couldn't yet find an M8 and never had the opportunity to see a 30x40 print of its files, but have seen many of 4x5 backs. Maybe David could crop the image to the size of an M8 file and do some comparisons in the print output that he is an expert. The P45 has a Kodak sensor also and despite having a high pass filter does not suffer of the IR problem that we have to live with in the M8. Mitch, I can pay the print but David send it to you and you comment to us. I will be more than happy with that, if David is, in the interest of the forum. A bit off topic here but answering Vic, I use the 35 and 47mm in the Alpa 12 SWA. The lens shift does degrade the quality of the border of the image in the direction of the shift, both in sharpness and light fall off. This happens mostly in the 35mm, which is very wide for the back, so you have to limit the shift to no more than 10mm, instead of 25mm that the camera allows you to. Using the center filter does not help in the sharpness degradation. No problems with the 47mm. It is a fantastic combo for architecture pictures and cityscapes, that I do mostly. carstenw Posted December 6, 2006 Share #32 Posted December 6, 2006 Don't understand why Mitch is so nervous abt my question. No is here is nervous. The offer was specifically made to convince anyone in doubt of the M8's capability to match the print quality of 4x5 film. Probably the amount of doubting of this statement was a major motivator, and David is simply backing his opinion with a great deal on a print. I believe that $150 difference will not change anybody´s life in this forum where cameras and lenses are the prices that we have here. Well, alright then, if you really mean that, pay $400 and get a beautiful print done.
davidada Posted December 6, 2006 Author Share #33 Posted December 6, 2006 Hi, I took no offense, but the offer is for M8 files, I print files from P45 and powerphase backs often and know how they compare. It also is not fair to my clients who pay full price for this service.
