Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a mint, boxed chrome M4-P, serial number 1650 etc. Does this have any rarity value? (but I still intend to use it rather than just keep it as an investment).

leica_m4p Posted December 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 9, 2009 If if does not have the "1913- 1983" engraving it has some + value. and, I believe, a little more if it's the flush M6 style windows version. Although either way there were only 4,334 silver ones made!
sabears Posted December 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2009 ...an a little more again if it's one of the last 700 in Wetzlar Box...
Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 9, 2009 It's Canadian, but scarcely less desirable, I think; certainly in appearance......and thank you gentlemen, for your information.
leica_m4p Posted December 9, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2009 Incidientally there were 2,500 of the Anniversary ones, so only 1,834 non anniversary. Either way though, it's a beautiful body and has always been my favourite.
Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can see how people are motivated to buy lenses which look good on particular bodies. My current 50mm is a 1956 f2 Summicron, which goes well on the chrome M4-P.

Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 10, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 10, 2009 I located a Summaron, made ca 1961.(£425! so still thinking about it).
Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2009 ....and now spotted a Hektor for sale, for even more, at £499.....Maybe I'll stick with my 1940 f3.5 3.5cm Elmar. All one needs to do is step back a little.
Guest maddoc2003jp Posted December 11, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 11, 2009 Leica M4-P, my all-time favorite camera. Have a look here and here. Cheers, Gabor
Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 11, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 11, 2009 Seen....actually, there's something to be said for not having a built-in meter. After metering and setting the shutter and aperture, you concentrate just on the image in the viewfinder, rather than fiddling around while framing the scene. Liberating, in a way; and in the spirit of the original Leica philosophy: the minimum of technology between you and the picture.

Guest JoanMarianne Posted December 11, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 11, 2009 Sdifaz pictures: My example is the same, although the engraving (on mine) on the back of the words MADE BY LEITZ CANADA seems a little coarser by comparison.

JoanMarianne, The engraving is very fine on my camera but beautifully finished, this includes the speed dial also. Mine too is boxed and I would be suprised if it has ever seen proper use, it has to be the most positive leica M I have ever handled. I think the M4-P looks very handsome in chrome! As for rarity value, I have no idea! Regards...!
Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted December 11, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 11, 2009 , As for rarity value, I have no idea! ! About EUR 1250 for one in userstate: and a little less for the "70 years" model:
