Paolita Posted December 22, 2009 Share #61 Posted December 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would like to add my little experience regarding the subject of this discussion. My passion for ''practiced'' photography started just a couple of years ago, eventhough my late father was a very talented photographer (also developping and printing his own photos). I can not explained why (probably...something in my DNA...???) this passion for photography came out without....pre-advice, I bought a digital EOS Canon as believed that using my late father's film cameras was too difficult for me and then (I tought....) digital is so easy to deal with, something going wrong with the shot...well just delete it. But at the same time I felt a little bit guilty leaving all my father's cameras and lenses not used and with the risk to be dammaged for the not use. In my father's collection there was also a LEICA IIIC and she has been the real ''responsible'' for my falling in love with film cameras and black and white photography. I felt in love with LEICAS, I add to my film cameras collection a wonderful M6 with the classical lenses 35-50-90, I am sure I will have in my future other ''M'' cameras and as far as digital is concerned probably I will be tempted by the M8 but now that I have seen, with my own eyes and practical experience, the differences between black and white FILM photos and B&W digital files...well in case I will buy a digital M8 this will be for colour photos only and when the use of Digital is more practical (for example when travelling) or so. I feel I have improved a lot my photographic skills now that I am using film cameras, I had to learn the basics of photography and the first attempts were....quite faulty but this is natural when you start learning something new. I feel more satisfied now with film than when I have started using only digital and I am sure I will continue this way. My late father would be so happy for my choice! Sorry for the long post but I would like to share with you my ''story'' and my experience. hamey Posted December 23, 2009 Share #62 Posted December 23, 2009 Latest news in from Nikon on a new NASA order of the D3s :- Nikon | News | NASA Orders D3S Digital SLR Cameras and Interchangeable Lenses from Nikon Just ordered 11 of them. NASA, not me that is. Another Nikon puff release. Aden. Let us know when NASA decides to land on the moon or any other planet, because I don't think they will be using the Nikon D3s. Remember back in 1969, YES I WATCHED THE MOON LANDING LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD THANKS TO AUSTRALIA. Nikon was number 1 then, why did'nt NASA use Nikon, perhaps the 35mm body to small. So with the ASTRONAUTS large protective suits I doubt if they're able to operate these Cameras. However inside the spacecraft any mickey mouse camera will do, even the Leica M9. The web site for Camera is......... AVHUB.COM.AU. Ken.
Pangur Ban Posted January 8, 2010 Share #63 Posted January 8, 2010 Personally, I'm quite happy to keep a segregation between my Leicas for film and my dSLR and P&S for digital. I have no plans to get a dRF as I enjoy the mechanicalness and computer-free functionality of the Leicas as well as exploring the different films and developers. I also enjoy colour slide film with them so it's not a film=b&w position. They're different and I enjoy the differences. How things change so quickly - despite writing this barely a month ago, today I now have an M8, in exchange for my M7 and some cash. I decided I wanted to see what the M8 was like and it's great being able to fit my vintage lenses onto it. I still have my M3, and other film cameras, and a lot of film stocks to use so I will continue with film. Plus ca change, plus c'est le meme chose, as they say around here... Maciel Posted January 11, 2010 Share #64 Posted January 11, 2010 For now, I guess. I really tried to get high quality out of digital (owned an RD-1, M8, M8.2, used a M9, still own a D700), but it does not match film yet. So I will wait three years, may be then it's there. Once exception is low light, the Nikon sensor of the D700/D3(x) is impressive in low light. The Leica M9/8.2/8 sensor is not.
