clam2033 Posted December 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M9 hangs completely if one uses the delete all function while in the magnified play mode. If delete all is performed at the normal viewing size, everything is normal. I wonder if this is a general problem or only with my camera Thanks for any other's experience. Have had that happen a number of times on delete all, but I do not recall it being in magnified mode only, so use it with trepidation every time (format is soooo slowwww). It would be nice if magnified mode really is the trigger.... Would be even better to get a firmware fix. Need to test a bit....

I all always use Format SD card only.

clam2033 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted December 7, 2009 So far my experience is no hang if delete all is done from normal view mode. dpattinson Posted December 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) You should report to Leica, sounds like a clear FW bug. They may already know, but no harm in giving them more info. Possibly trying to delete the file currently being viewed is hanging the camera.
Marty Posted December 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 7, 2009 It is a known problem, see [thread=102667]here[/thread] (with further links).
scottwallick Posted December 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 7, 2009 The M9 hangs completely if one uses the delete all function while in the magnified play mode. While possibly OT, I would suggest to the OP not to use delete all in order to preserve the longevity of the SD card. When deleting all, the camera must write to the card for each image to be deleted. SD cards have a certain 'life' of reads and writes. Formatting the SD card is a single action, so choosing this over deleting individuals images will extend the life of the card.
Marty Posted December 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 7, 2009 Hmm not so sure about that last statement. 1) delete all will not rename the card (minor issue for most), 2) delete all will not remove protected images, and 3) delete all will only touch a small section of the card (call it "index") not every image. I agree. In fact - if 'Format' takes longer than 'Delete all' then most likely it is doing more writing to the media than delete all is.
clam2033 Posted December 8, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted December 8, 2009 How does one report to Leica? They dont seem to have a bug report email anywhere on their website. Leica could benefit from user bug reports as do most good software companies. It would improve their debugging process. Thanks. You should report to Leica, sounds like a clear FW bug. Yes, they would also benefit from providing release notes that specify what has been fixed in a firmware release. Unfortunately Leica appear to be stuck in a mindset that doesn't want to publicly acknowledge any bug or fix unless forced to do so (ie product recall). I think you can just email cs@leica-camera.com (the German customer support email). I had some useful responses re. M8 issues from the staff there.
