stuny Posted December 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2009 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) This is the shift lever on a 1947 Indian motorcycle, followed by it's logo on the front fender and its "hood ornament" atop the front fender. It's called a "suicide shift" since the rider must move his hands form the handle bar to the shifter, rather than shift using the tip of the rider's boot. Kiehls', the lotions and cosmetics firm, has a collection of vintage bikes, and places one in all its stores. This one in on Columbus Avenue in the '60s. pauledell Posted December 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2009 Stuart, Great shots with nice composition, colors and sharpness plus a chill of doom. I couldn't drive a cycle with two hands, how could I ever shift gears by taking my hand off the handle bar? Paul
stuny Posted December 7, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted December 7, 2009 Paul - Thank you. Though I've tried motorcylces (and Barbara and I even survived a day of touring on one) I'm not fond of them.
roguewave Posted December 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2009 Stu, great shots. I always rent scooters when we travel to cities in Europe. I loved Rome best on one of those. Yoy ride everywhere & then go out of the city in minutes along the Appian Way & then scoot back in. At dusk, it's incredible up there & returning to the cities at nightfall is just awesome. stuny Posted December 10, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted December 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert - Probably not. Most of the bikes of that era were a bit of a challenge.
