Would you mind showing us a picture of your X1, seems odd that Leica sells products in NZ months before they are officially released ROW.

Here's a picture of myself holding X1. Taken using bathroom mirror and flipping the result horizontally.

According to Sean's review, there is a shutter delay of 1.27 sec. if the camera is set to preview previous image on the LCD. What we are witnessing here must be that 1.27 sec. shutter delay. Apparently @RCW is looking at the screen to see the image that has just been taken. When the camera is not set to preview previous images then the shutter delay is 0.5 sec.

The lens is extended since there is a bright rim light reflection on the edge of the font element which would probably not be as prominent if the front element were recessed.

Take care!

Khanosu is right on both counts: the camera was set on auto preview and the lens is extended. Bear in mind that I'm still using firmware 0.73b. Apparently the shutter lag is less with version 1.0. The lag time is similar to the D-Lux 4 which I traded in on the X1.

The lens has to be extended when the camera is operating, as it is in the picture.

I am surprised that Leica released for sale an X1 with firmware status less than 1.00. I just wonder if your camera was an early release to your dealer for demonstration purposes and was not intended for immediate sale before the firmware was updated? I am sure you will see some improvements when final release firmware is available. Meanwhile, ENJOY!

Heard indirectly that the UK is now looking at first week Feb. Seemingly there's quite a few changes to the camera from the one reviewed on Luminous Landscape. Quicker autofocus being one of the rumoured changes!
.....great to see a affirmative statement for a change:)

Did the person you heard from, hear it directly? Or was it one of those direct-indirect-indirect-LUF?

OK. After all this talk I called LEICA USA today. They are in Allendale, NJ and spoke with a Mr. Mark Brady. On LEICA's webpage his name is listed to ask questions regarding your pre sales issuse.

He was vey nice. According to him: he spoke with "upper management a few days ago, and the January release was still on and gave no reasons (firmware upgrade, etc.) for the delay. As he phrased it there are still more than two weeks left from the month and can be "on time". After pressing him a little more he admitted that he would be not surprised if the actual release would be in February.

So there you have it!

See,

I don't normally post here as this is the sort if thread that happens and I don't really want to get embroiled! How can anyone be totally sure till the camera ships? I can't anyhow!

My source is the Leica rep in the UK, so pretty solid! But I don't want you all salivating only to be let down, so maybe best to wait and see when I pick mine up first week of Feb :-)
