Advertisement Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Hi ho_co, Take a look here M9 problem with SD Cards. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vish Posted January 31, 2010 Share #42 Posted January 31, 2010 First make sure that your SD Card is /dev/disk1 !!! Yes indeed, this is not intended to be used without a clue I should have said. To figure out the device name of your SD card, go into your terminal and type: df -h And you will get something like this: [vish@]> df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on /dev/disk0s2 465Gi 369Gi 96Gi 80% / devfs 109Ki 109Ki 0Bi 100% /dev map -hosts 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% /net map auto_home 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% /home /dev/disk1s1 30Gi 7.0Gi 23Gi 24% /Volumes/LEICA_M9 And you will see your SD card and the device name. tom in mpls Posted February 7, 2010 Share #44 Posted February 7, 2010 My Transcend 8gb class 6 card is recognized and so far (5 days) is working fine. My pqi 8gb class 6 card is not recognized.
iplab Posted March 9, 2010 Share #45 Posted March 9, 2010 Just a quick update on this. Just bought a Samsung 8GB for my M9 - absolutely no good at all. Makes the camera freeze, can't record properly. It's going straight back to Amazon. The only cards I can get to work properly are the SanDisk Extreme III cards.
fjmcsu Posted March 15, 2010 Share #46 Posted March 15, 2010 I finished a shoot of a local rock band last week with no problems using the recommended Ultra II16GB 15mb/sec SanDisk card; All images can be seen on my computer but when I went to take an additional shot with the card_NO SD CARD ERROR; If I press play then I get a message "reading folder data please wait" and nothing happens. There have been no changes to the camera or the SD card.Camera is my second camera, now a week old (the other camera arrived with a shutter fault error after one picture). I thought that perhaps this can be rectified by firmware update but I then realized a card is necessary to perform it.No such problems with cards & my M8. ho_co Posted March 15, 2010 Share #47 Posted March 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Francisco-- 1) Maybe try a different card? I keep a couple small cards around to use for firmware updates. 2) Will the 16GB card work if first erased or reformatted? A reformatted card is usually used for the firmware update. Good luck! fjmcsu Posted March 15, 2010 Share #48 Posted March 15, 2010 ho_co, thanks for responding;I tried a Ridata 4GB card from my M8(works fine in M8) & same problem; I am in the process of transferring the files to my computer & will format the Ultra SanDIsk card in my computer & see what happens!! fjmcsu Posted March 15, 2010 Share #49 Posted March 15, 2010 Tried reformatting all cards(2gb Sandisk(x2), 2GB Ultra II,16GB Ultra II, Ridata 2GB) all with same error. Looks like ack to the dealer for another try!
jaapv Posted March 15, 2010 Share #50 Posted March 15, 2010 Are you reformatting in your computer to FAT 16 ?- try 32.
fjmcsu Posted March 15, 2010 Share #51 Posted March 15, 2010 Yes I reformatted to FAT 32, then tried to reformat in camera but since the card(s) aren't recognized the menu option for formatting is grayed out.
AGeoJO Posted March 15, 2010 Share #52 Posted March 15, 2010 I just updated the firmware of my M9 and all the sudden my trusted SD cards were initially not recognized, but they are working again now. This is what I did although I am not saying that this trick will help your situation but it may be worth trying as it is fairly simple. First, remove both the battery and card, reinsert both, go to the menu, scroll down at least one cycle and at the second cycle, the camera can see the SD card and you can format it then. I hope this simple trick will help in your situation and please let us know. Good luck! Joshua

Joshua Joshua, Thanks- I will will try it later today when I get back to my home.I have removed the battery, placed a fresh charge & put the cards in but didn't do specifically the two cycle bit(I presume you mean to rotate twice in the menu till one gets back to format!) AGeoJO Posted March 15, 2010 Share #54 Posted March 15, 2010 Francisco, correct. When you first get to the "Format SD" menu, it is grayed out but after the full cycle, the second time it gets there, the menu will be functional and it will let you format the SD card. I did it with 3 of my SD cards and it worked that way each time. Again, a minor quirk from Leica, I guess but hey, it is working now .
strynoski Posted March 15, 2010 Share #55 Posted March 15, 2010 Just downloaded firmware update v. 1.116 and have tried several cards that did not work previously--Kingston 4G Class 4 SDHC card now works, as does Transcend 8G Class 6, and Sandisk Ultra II 4G (Class 4.) Fujifilm 4G SDHC Class 6 still does not work, however. Previously, I could not get any SDHC cards to work consistently in my M9, so firmware update 1.116 is an improvement, but does not seem to totally solve this issue. Snapper UK Posted March 15, 2010 Author Share #57 Posted March 15, 2010 I've just updated to 1.116 and while I am finding the zooming zippier and the formatting much quicker too, I am still having problems with the the camera not recognising my two Lexar Professional SDHC 8GB 133x class6 cards. Which are very specifically on the approved list. I think I am going to call Solms about this because this was the firmware update I was holding out for. jaapv Posted March 15, 2010 Share #58 Posted March 15, 2010 Try reformatting them. I had to reformat some cards before they could be used on the new firmware.

Alas no go with this trick;Oh well I have an appointment with our Leica rep this Wednesday(he will happen to be in this area this week & my dealer-Camera & Darkroom-set it up) : I was told that there may be a fix( I suspect the new firmware) but I still can't find a card that is recognized by my camera!! We will see:rolleyes:
AGeoJO Posted March 16, 2010 Share #60 Posted March 16, 2010 Francisco, have you updated your firmware to 1.116? If not, you may want to do that first. I use an SD card of small capacity, like a 1GB card that my camera recognized without any problems. After I updated the firmware, I noticed that my larger cards (8GB and 16GB) were not recognized and that's when cycling through the menu helped in that case for me.
