M9 @ Amazon, but...

If it's the same thing I saw, it's being sold by Willoughbys.

I called them today, they do have one in stock and they wanted $7999. I don't think so.

Amazon always has third party sellers. It says right next to the price who is selling it... Amazon or someone else.

Good Lord, I had read about what utter sleazebags Willoughby's is, but had to go to their website to check, and you're right. $9000 for a camera that retails for less than $7k. That's outrageous.

I bought mine from Willoughby's for 7k. He wanted 7,700 but I convinced him to sell it to me for MSRP 6995. I also needed a lens as well, so he wanted my business. Perfect customer service and the M9 plus the lens was brand new. Not scum bags in my book, they delivered a camera that many are still on a wait list for, meanwhile I am really enjoying my camera.

Regards,

Steve

This occurs commonly on Amazon for scarce items. I've seen very high prices for scarce cameras and batteries. The seller is inevitably a 3rd party, not Amazon. It's not sleazy. There's no deception or theft. The price is the pice and the people who pay it (if any do) do so knowing that it's a high price and that they can get a lower price if they just wait for the supply to increase.

You want to hear a pathetic Amazon story? I ordered an M9 from them on 9/10/09, and was notified last week that it was shipping. The price when I placed the order was the MSRP.

The UPS driver apparently tried to deliver it to the wrong house, and the occupant refused it. It started the journey back to Amazon. Two days of talking to Amazon reps, and it turns out their ordering system is so inflexible that they cannot just turn around and ship it to me again. It goes back into their inventory, and I go to the back of the line. Then the phone rep had the nerve to tell me that there was one available, the one you are mentioning at Willoughby's, for $2000 over MSRP!!!!.

To say that I am disgusted with Amazon as a company right now is and understatement. Naturally, they have not yet refunded my credit card. That will probably be the next battle I have to fight with them. My advice: use amazon only for books. All the other stuff they are starting to sell doesn't mesh well with their ridiculously rigid ordering system.

I just received my M9 From Willoughby's the other day, and it was for $7,000.00

w/free overninght shipping, but......

I had purchased a Leica refurbished 16-18-21mm Tri Elmar from them the week before. They had it listed on Ebay, but it did not sell, so I got it at a reasonable price. When the lens arrived it was as described, in like new condition, all boxes, warranty, shade, etc. So far so good, especially after reading all of the negative posts on them.

Back in the 1970's when I worked for UPI I dealt with them a lot and never had any issues.

Anyway, I asked them if they had an M9 in stock, this was last Monday, and I was told yes, they had one, so I purchased it at $6995.00 including Overnight air.

The camera did NOT arrive the next day Tuesday. I called and was told that somebody in the store had sold it, even though I had purchased and paid for it!

But I was told that another one was coming in the fallowing day and it would be mine.

In the meantime I check my AmEx on line statment and noticed that they had charged my card $7595.00! You can bet I was a bit peeved!

I called and was told that they made a mistake, the had updated their site to reflect the NEW!?, upcoming price increase!. But was told that they would refund the differance on my card.

Camera did not arrive the fallowing day, was told that UPS had only Overnight deliveries for Wed. (That was true, as we ship and receive UPS daily here.)

Anyway, to make a long story a bit shorter, I did finally get my Camera on Monday, and finally they refunded the differance, but it took a while.

Oh, on the invoice they had the correct amount, but had the wrong date of purchase, they had last Friday, the original order date. They are supposed to send me a corrected invoice

Will I deal with them again?, Not so sure.

Oh, regarding Amazon, they are a bit of a sleeze when it comes to pricing, undercutting, overpricing, etc.

My business is in direct competition with them, (Will not tell you who we are for obvious reasons), but I can tell you that they have become a thorne in the side of many a vendors and retailers. I know some reputable vendors, and I give them credit for this, that have shut down and no longer supply them with product because of the underhanded way that they do business.

As a previous post stated, just by books form them.

Given the recent positive experiences of several here, and their reported rapid delivery, I ordered from Willoughby's. I paid a bit above $6999, but I spent less than I would have by buying in my state, due to state tax of 9% out west....so, as long as it gets delivered soon (they stated 3 business days), I should be very happy by next week.

I just hope that my experience is comparable to the other positive M9 purchases from them....

So how does that work ?

Not sure how they get such a steady stream of M9's.

It works, I just called them up and said hey, " Do you have an M9" They say, "yes" I then ask how much etc. etc. then we finally agree on a price. Its really pretty easy.

In other words, that's where they bend you over and try to sucker you for more than retail.

Hey, if it's worth it to you (like the above person needing it for a trip) then more power to you and good for them for participating in capitalism.

Yup, we finally agreed on $6995.00 I thought that was a pretty great price. Go Capitalism.

Like i said, "Try". No need for childish sarcasm. They also made more profit from you because you bought a lens.

Some others here have also bought from them for retail. On the other hand they TRIED to sell to me for $1k over. It's listed on their own website and amazon for $2k over. Someone else paid $600 over. I didn't even start seriously looking for one until last week and I should have one buy next week, but no way am I paying a cent more for it, and now I wouldn't even buy it from them for retail.

My coming trip to Egypt in 1 week spurred on my own desparation and thus my online purchase at above MSRP. I found a way to justify the purchase by admitting that paying extra would still be less than paying for the camera here in Washingtion, due to our tax in state (over 9%)...regardless, I am a bit nervous about the purchase, and really hope it gets here before I ship off in just over 1.5 weeks.....

I totally understand there's a dilemna & point of debate here based on sales practices of different companies (both online and brick and mortar). My own local dealer, from whom I had purchased many items over the years, strung me along for nearly 2 months, stating that it'd be any day and actually told me at different times that I was at different spots on the wait list, and not necessarily moving up it as time passed. It's complete conjecture, but I wonder whether putting down larger deposits moved others up the wait list ahead of me. Ultimately, I got tired of it. And my dealer is very well regarded in the area. However, I suspect that lack of knowledge drove misinformation, and hopefully, I will find cause to purchase from them again.

Regardless, my purchase is sealed now with Willoughby's, unless I have gotten duped (I certainly hope not).
