Much to my surprise, received the call today that my M9 has finally come in! After selling my M6 years ago and working with the DMR since, the first thing that I can really appreciate is the small size and form factor; it's great to get back into a rangefinder again. I'm also very impressed with the quality of the files from the M9 and the 35 cron asph (which is the only M lens I am using for now); both in terms of sharpness, micro contrast, and clarity. I'm also loving the Steel Grey, and glad that I held out switching for a black, although I do see what others have been mentioning with regards to the covering being a bit more slippery and not quite as nice grip wise as the black paint camera's covering; although I prefer the aesthetic of the leatherette on the grey body. I'll have to perhaps look into griptac sometime in the future. The paint also seems to be hardened and more durable than the first steel gray I saw when I ordered back on 9/9/9; perhaps they changed the formula, or allowed the paint to cure longer? I have also noticed that I do not really have much of a delay with the camera processing while zooming in on the files in playback as some have expressed. One (small/relatively insignificant) issue that I am having that I have not seen mentioned before is that I am having a bit of difficulty seeing the 35mm frame lines completely without moving my eye around. I know that this has been mentioned with the 28mm lines, but does anyone else have this trouble with the 35mm lines? It seems it was easier on my M6. I do wear -1.5 prescription glasses; and therefore tried a -1.0 diopter; so maybe this is the issue? All in all for the few hours that I have had it I am very impressed and feel it is money well spent, and is likely the last camera that I will need for at least a very long time. Also I would like to say thanks to all on this forum for providing such a great resource to the Leica community and to new digital M owners. Thanks!

A quick shot in the bathroom mirror; nothing else to shoot here in Chicago at 11 pm on this cold night  Will post some more pics out and about in the gallery tomorrow.

Also curious to see, how many prefer the soft to the standard shutter release?

I have been using the soft release since I got the camera 10 days ago. I prefer it over the regular release with the only caveat being that I occasionally miss the exposure lock feature of the regular release.

Nice, looks good in silver, maybe I will get mine soon I ordered it on 9/9 too. I was at the leica dealer today they said anyone who orders one now will have a 6 month wait. EKKK that came straight from the Leica rep.

If you want a little better grip I like the THUMBS UP for the camera. There has bin a few threads on this item on the forum already.

Good luck with your m9, Jan

I was at the leica dealer today they said anyone who orders one now will have a 6 month wait.

Spoke to my dealer yesterday who said the same, as well as the other known facts (10000+ orders pending). He claimed though that Leica produces around 45 units/day only, not the 70 or so discussed earlier in this forum.

Same thing with 35mm frame lines and wearing glasses. What did the -1 diopter work for you?

One thing I like a lot with the M9 is that you can always use it no matter what glasses you wear, and don't get tired in the eyes (or come out of sync) as it does with SLR viewfinders. On SLR I always has to use "normal" outdoor glasses. On the M9 I can use reading glasses, normal glasses, screen glasses or none. I can always use the M9.

As for soft release, I've set mine on soft most of the time. When shooting singles it's nice, and when shooting series (where the soft release is not in function) it doesn't matter. To me it's more a matter of sound and rhythm than actual camera shake.

I really had difficulty seeing the 35 frame lines on my M9, even with contacts. But, after I had the camera for a few days I realized that the eyecup I had transferred from my M8 might have something to do with it. After removing it, I've had no issues.
