grober Posted December 2, 2006 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seems possible that after we M8 pioneers register our individual serial numbers on the Leica website next Wednesday, we'll be given the details of this rumored 30% discount, good toward the purchase of one new Leica lens, from an authroized Leica dealer (country specific.) Make mine the new 28mm Elmarit-M please! -g

innerimager Posted December 2, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 2, 2006 75 cron is something special you like it more than the 75 lux?
jrc Posted December 2, 2006 Share #23 Posted December 2, 2006 I'll go for the wide Tri-Elmar or maybe a 135; I'm all luxed out, otherwise. I like the idea of a sub-f4 (it's like 3.7 or something?) 180... JC
grober Posted December 3, 2006 Share #24 Posted December 3, 2006 you like it more than the 75 lux? I agree with Guy. I liked the 75 Summicron so much that I sold my 75 Summilux to buy one. The Summilux was/is just to heavy and unwieldy. I recommend the 'Cron highly. -g

J_Brittenson Posted December 3, 2006 Share #27 Posted December 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wouldn't put too much trust in Leica vouchers. At least Leica USA was making various voucher offers for the DMR as well, which never materialized.
doug_m Posted December 3, 2006 Share #28 Posted December 3, 2006 The AA 75 F2 really is superb. It was my favorite lens with the M7/ MP. However, when using an M8 the 50 1.4 Asph is outstanding for portraits. The balance and handling of the M8 with the 50 F1.4 Asph is great (and better than the 75 F2), especially for hand held, low light, slow shutter speed shots. scott kirkpatrick Posted December 3, 2006 Share #30 Posted December 3, 2006 I wouldn't put too much trust in Leica vouchers. At least Leica USA was making various voucher offers for the DMR as well, which never materialized. Tony Rose of Popflash shipped me the official dealer letter from Leica. The letter was smug and full of marketeer-spin, but the terms and conditions were clear. Ask your dealer to explain the deal in writing. scott
carstenw Posted December 3, 2006 Share #31 Posted December 3, 2006 "As a personal gesture, the CEO of Leica Camera AG will compensate every eligible customer in the form of a voucher worth 30% off the suggested retail price in their respective country ($1200 maximum) towards the purchase of a new Leica lens." Funny wording. It is almost as if the money is coming from the CEO's personal bank account. Does that mean that Stephen Lee is admitting blame for this fiasco? osera Posted December 3, 2006 Share #32 Posted December 3, 2006 Funny wording. It is almost as if the money is coming from the CEO's personal bank account. Does that mean that Stephen Lee is admitting blame for this fiasco? I would say that it is careful wording, rather than funny. To me, it is trying to express an understanding that there have been certain inconveniences and that they are willing to try, in part, to make it up to those who bought Leica on faith. If one is willing to make another commitment (ie, buy another product-lens), it will be provided at a discount. Including the "Leica CEO" gives it a personal touch. That may be marketing-speak, but seems likely to be expressing a true sentiment as well.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 3, 2006 Share #33 Posted December 3, 2006 Right now my M8 is dead and trying to figure to just box it up and ship to NJ for service or register it first on Dec.6th than go through the normal procedure for the repair and put in there Oh by the way it's not working also. I mean i would like to get the voucher if i have to ship it off, like i said before i would rather just exchange the darn thing and forget the voucher. But if i have to wait at least get the 30 percent off for a Nocti. Not sure what to do there. I maybe should call NJ repair on Monday morning and see what is the best way to get this repaired for everything all at once and still get the voucher. One of my dealers said nothing about this. carstenw Posted December 3, 2006 Share #34 Posted December 3, 2006 Guy, you wanted a backup anyway. Why not get the Noctilux and send the camera for repair. Meanwhile, find another. Sell one of your least-used R lenses to cover it. I know, I am the devil's advocate here.
agro Posted December 4, 2006 Share #35 Posted December 4, 2006 Hi Scott, You have mentioned: "Tony Rose of Popflash shipped me the official dealer letter from Leica. The letter was smug and full of marketeer-spin, but the terms and conditions were clear. Ask your dealer to explain the deal in writing". I am new to the Forum with just a deposit on M8. The eventual possibillity of saving $1K goes a long way with me. I have also sent a note to Tony just to receive the following: "My Leica Representative has not heard of this offer at this time. TR" So is the discount official or are we kidding ourselves? Cheers, Agro Andrew Grochocki's Photo Galleries at pbase.com
carstenw Posted December 4, 2006 Share #36 Posted December 4, 2006 Several of us have been offered this discount by our dealers. I believe that as of Dec. 6 we will be able to register on Leica's site, and then we should get it somehow, if our dealers haven't already offered it to us. Perhaps you can ask Tony Rose for the Leica rep's phone number, and call him up to chat with him about it.
Scott Root Posted December 4, 2006 Share #37 Posted December 4, 2006 Does anyone know through which mail ordering company I can order the M8 and pay in full before December 31 to take advantage of this 30% discounted lense?
agro Posted December 4, 2006 Share #38 Posted December 4, 2006 Thanks Carsten, I shall wait till 6th December and bother Tony with another question than.

Hi Guy,Why not just write down all info like serial # etc.. so that you can still register your camera on dec 6th even if it is sent to leica? Even if Leica would replace the camera you are still with in the legal requirements of registering a camera that you own at that moment. Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 4, 2006 Share #40 Posted December 4, 2006 That is what I am going to do . Send it to NJ today and still registar it on the Dec. 6th that way it is all documented. Starting to write my letter now for the service dept. Thanks good idea. I'm just sending the M8 in it's little box and filled out registration card and my reciept. Also selling my Leica R 19mm to have a little extra money for the second M8 was not prepared to get it so soon and this just pushed my time table up a little. Worst case i have a brand new unopened return at a dealer waiting for me, so if I can't get a fixed new version at least i can get one this week for my trip to Yosemite which i planned some more tests.
