Seeing that a M9 might be a long way off in my future, I have been looking to add a lens to my M8 (35 f/2, 50mm f/1.4). I have been dreaming of the 18 mm f/3.8, but have read the hazzles that members are having with the filter. So now my thoughts have turned to the 16-18-21 mm. The price difference is more that 2X, but yet you really are getting three lenses. As always the advice I have received from this forum has been outstanding, so thanks in advance. I would love to hear any advice on either of these lenses. Thanks

unless i've missed something, i think he's referring to the magenta cast with the 18 reported on the m9. this isn't a problem for m8 users so no worries! anyway, the magenta cast can be fixed using cornerfix until leica comes up with a proper firmware update..

I used to use it on M8 with Leica filter and worked very well. I used it with Leica 24mm finder and/or Voigtlander 25mm finder, either works fine. I just don't use it any more (but still have it) since I shoot more films.

As for this one or WATE, if price and size difference is acceptable, then you can go either way. To me, WATE was too large and too expensive, so I got Super Elmar. If you want to go even cheaper, Zeiss Distagon should do well.

I think you mean the pink cast that occurs on the left side of the frame when wide angle lenses like the SEM 18 are used... The consensus seems to be it is due to firmware over correction... It IS a problem for the M8 too... And we should NOT have to use Sandy's most excellent application to fix the problem... That being said - I LOVE my SEM 18mm... And wait patiently for a firmware upgrade...
