Anybody use one of these? I figured it was a re-branded version of a fairly cheap tripod from an OEM, but I cannot find its equal. I suppose what I'm asking is: Is it worth the money? I own Gitzo and RRS tripod gear so I understand what it means to own a good tripod. Given the size of the little Leica, I wondered about the consensus from the group.

I don't know the current price so can't know whether it's worth the money - especially to you. But it's a really useful tripod/chestpod/whatever and quite strong enough for DSLRs as well as Ms. Mine - 50 years old and still going strong - complements my ultra-light Gitzo and big strong Linhof.

ditto. Mine is over 50 years of age, and as solid as a rock. Makes a marvellous chestpod also; or to jamb up against a wall, post etc to steady the camera.

Here's a man who knows precisely how to use it. The chestpod ploy has gotten me more shots at shutter speeds that never would have worked hand-held in dimly lit European museums and catrhedrals where flash is strictly verboten than I can recount.

Of course it's worth it, and it is always with me. You really can't judge its value from an accountant's viewpoint looking at the cost side only, when it's a matter of bringing back a usable shot or coming home empty-handed.

I got my LEITZ table-tripod together with my first LEICA (M4) 40 years ago,

together with a matching ballhead. Both are almost in daily use and still

going strong 10 LEICAs later.

One of the most useful LEITZ/ LEICA items from their catalogue, besides cameras and lenses.

MINOLTA had a similar product, perhaps this is s/h easier to come by.

I would get the LEICA one any time again. The price today is steep, but time passes by

and you forget about the money.

Best

Hi Everyone,

I have two of these: one with the large ball head, the other with the small. I bought both of them on ebay surprisingly inexpensively. They are well made and they do the job. I haven't used them as much as I should have, but the comments here are encouraging me to use them more often.

Cheers!

David

I have the current version which I bought secondhand. It is excellent and the quick reliable locking of the ball and socket head is outstanding.

There is one for sale under Leica accessories for 80 Euro which is an excellent price. Grab it if you really want one. It might save the day for you sometime and certainly make exploratory brief time exposures indoors a joy.

Another vote for the Leica one and the jewell-like finish of the ball-head.

Manfrotto do a smaller, lighter and less expensive equivalent:

tripods, heads, monopods, light stands, camera supports, lighting supports, professional tripod 709B - DGT ALL TABLE TRIPOD BLACK

This costs about 15% of the combined cost of the two Leica items.

Another vote for the Manfrotto table top tripod. It's also available in an outfit comprising the tripod, mini ball head, extension tube and leather case. Part number 345 I think.

Same here, bought in '63, been everywhere with me since, wouldn't be without it.

Same for me... The Manfrotto is a very small and solid tripod. I never live home without it:).

That's exactly what I have been trying to sell here in LA...except head is of older design...

Great item...last time I used was for the opening of Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada...one of the picts was used for cover of Nevada magazine December issue the other year...

+1. It's the only tripod I own.

Bill
