d2mini Posted January 5, 2010 Share #61 Posted January 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just spent a week in Europe and took over 1000 shots with my brand new M9 and 35 'cron. It was a perfect combo. Of course once in a while I could have used something wider and once in a while I could have used a LONG zoom. But overall the 35 was the best choice for me. fotonick66 Posted January 13, 2010 Share #62 Posted January 13, 2010 What about the Tri Elmar 28-35-50. A bit bulky and not so fast. But.... 3 lenses with the price of one and a half.....

Not a bad choice, add a monopod to correct for it's slowness, and you have a pretty good setup.
ashwinrao1 Posted January 13, 2010 Share #64 Posted January 13, 2010 Gosh, If price was no limitation, my suggestions would be: 1. 50 lux asph (makes no compromises, sharp and perfect on M9) 2. 35 lux asph (would be ideal, save focus shift issues, which I don't seem to have) If price was a limitation 1. 35 summarit 2. used 35 cron asph I prefer to think in 2 or 3 lens kits, personally, but understand the desire for 1 lens to do most of the shooting, if not all. In this case, the 50 is the most versatile, but also is an overall compromise focal length (not quite tele, may not be wide enough at times.... If 2 lenses were an option, I'd go 35/75. If 3 lenses, I'd go 35/50/90.... Good luck...
ashwinrao1 Posted January 13, 2010 Share #65 Posted January 13, 2010 Another cool option would be the MATE, along with a 90...4 focal lenghs for the price of 2...
swamiji Posted January 13, 2010 Share #66 Posted January 13, 2010 Another cool option would be the MATE, along with a 90...4 focal lenghs for the price of 2... The MATE is the Tri Elmar 28-35-50, If you go with a Macro Elmar-90 you get 5. Or if you go for the MATE and the WATE you get 6, however again all these are f4, so a monopod will help, a lot

W4Leica Posted January 14, 2010 Share #69 Posted January 14, 2010 When I decided to join leica, I was thinking of 35 and 75 or 90 crons combination. Later I decided to go with 50 cron as starter or maybe the only lens. But I know in my mind, one is not good enough. No matter how much I resist because of price, I will choose 28 cron as my 2nd lens, and so on. I have to go - my wife is coming. W.
carbonadam Posted January 14, 2010 Share #70 Posted January 14, 2010 if price were not a big deal I'd get the LEICA SUMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH As my life is now, I love the Voigtländer 40mm 1.4. For the price, it can not be beat.
Ecar Posted January 14, 2010 Share #71 Posted January 14, 2010 It would be the Cron 35 for me. Not my favorite lens in absolute terms (IMO misses the WOW! that some other glass sometimes offer), but possibly the best all-rounder on the M9: fast enough for most situations, small/light, great IQ and easy to focus. proenca Posted January 14, 2010 Share #72 Posted January 14, 2010 That's a good one!! I was wondering the same... FL = Focal Lenght
proenca Posted January 14, 2010 Share #73 Posted January 14, 2010 Only one ? hummmm If I had ABSOLUTLY to have only one, I would go for a 35 Lux but since theres so many dreaded focus shift issues I would have either : Got the 24mm Summilux if price was no object Or 35 Cron preASPH if price was an object PS : I like moderate wide angle"ish" views but with the possibility of blurring the background ( both 24 lux and 35 Cron pre-ASPH allow that, where for example the 24 2.8 doesnt )
tategoi Posted January 14, 2010 Author Share #74 Posted January 14, 2010 It i not easy to have only one lens. And just to update the thread, after a month of ownership with the 35 Summicron, my second lens is the Nokton 50 1.1.
d2mini Posted January 14, 2010 Share #75 Posted January 14, 2010 I posted earlier in this thread that I could only afford to get one lens for a while so I chose the new 35 Summicron ASPH. If anyone is interested in looking, i have a gallery from my trip to Europe a couple weeks ago. Every pic but two are from the M9/35. I found this to be the perfect combo. Once on a while it would have been nice to have a 90 or longer, but 95% of the time I was happy as a clam. Europe 2009 - a set on Flickr
Guest ccmsosse Posted January 16, 2010 Share #76 Posted January 16, 2010 I have my M9 via Adorma since 12/23/09 and had prior acquried Steve Huff's 50 Summilux pre-asph, I also bought a 35 Summicron from BHPhotovideo, a 24 Elmarit from Dahle Foto, a 50 Noctilux 1.0 from Photovillage, a 75 Summarit from PopFlash and a 90 Elmarit from Tamarkin. I love then all abur mainly use the 50 sumiux and 35 Summicron - I will use the 75 for portraits. I love the versatility of Leica ... "I have arrived" I am now working on my Lumix GF1 as a back-up body.
rebride Posted January 16, 2010 Share #77 Posted January 16, 2010 Solution 1: Tri Elmar 28-35-50/4. A nice trip solution. Solution 2: 35mm/1.4 ASPH. All-mighty lens.
georgio Posted January 16, 2010 Share #78 Posted January 16, 2010 My only lens is the 24mm Elmarit, that I still have from the time I had a M6. (I never do people) But I do not have my M9 yet.
Hacker Posted January 16, 2010 Share #79 Posted January 16, 2010 Erwin's tests and comments really helped me choose between the options available - plus, the smaller size of the 28 Elmarit and 35 cron makes it such that they don't completely obliterate the entire lower right corner of the viewfinder when you're using them (which the luxes in these lenses do to a greater degree). Surprisingly, I actually found the 35mm Summarit sharper than the 35 Cron ASPH. My lens on the M9 would be the 50 Lux Asph.
lars_bergquist Posted January 16, 2010 Share #80 Posted January 16, 2010 Surprisingly, I actually found the 35mm Summarit sharper than the 35 Cron ASPH. My lens on the M9 would be the 50 Lux Asph. What does 'sharp' mean? It is really a subjective perception, and it seems to depend on two different things: Resolution, and contrast. MTF graphs do measure both. Graphs are published for both lenses. But remember that visually, high contrast can make a lens 'feel' sharper than one with more resolution. And for that reason, I avoid the words 'sharp' and 'sharpness' and prefer to speak of definition instead. I hope this makes it easier to understand that it is the technical performance, not my or your subjective experience that I am discussing.
