markowich Posted November 27, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) here is a press release on leica's finances, published by the online service of the austrian tv company: Leica rutscht tiefer in die roten Zahlen - futurezone.ORF.at if you buy the S2+lenses now then nobody might be there to provide service after two year's time because leica may have gone under. i've seen financially more sound companies go that route. well, i have a big investment in the m system and hope.... peter

adan Posted November 28, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2009 Actual Leica first-half report posted 27/11/2009 (or 11/27/2009) here: Leica Camera AG - Investor Relations - Annual Reports Sales up for cameras/photo, down for sports optics.
ericperlberg Posted November 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 29, 2009 I can't argue with what Peter says that Leica's losses may influence some few potential S2 sales but there is the complicating factor that these loses include the start-up costs for 3 major product systems and at the same time no revenue from 2 of them and limited revenue from the the M9. Comparing the losses to the prior year is also a chalk and cheese affair. So Leica may actually not be in as bad shape as it may intially seem and depending on sales of the new Leica line-up Leica may have a more viable product line than it has had in years. delander † Posted November 29, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 29, 2009 The results are for the period ending 30 September 2009 - hardly any M9 sales were made before then. The second half of the 2009/10 year should be excellent as sales of the new cameras take off. Then a couple of good years should enable them to continue R&D and produce even more new products. Despite all the groaners, moaners and naysayers Leica still have a lot of customers keen to see them succeed and success breeds success so new customers will also grow. It seems they are just about to turn a corner. Jeff
