jcbjr Posted December 1, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) took my m8 and dmr on family thanksgiving trip and ended up taking virtually every photo with the m8 (and 50 1.4, 35 1.4 and 24 2.8 and 486 filters), usually with flash (sd-24), amost all with great results. love the feel of the images- virtually identical to dmr, with less weight and overhead. only issue was the intensity of that little flash unit- anyone have any suggestions about how to soften the flash with any sort of stoffen device? never seen one for that unit. john

mwilliamsphotography Posted December 1, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2006 I agree, The S-Fill does the job as well as using the W/A atachment with it. Play around with the +/- comp buttons on the back of the flash also. You can MINUS it to act as fill rather than the primary light. Order the S-Fill quickly, they are going to discontinue making them or something like that.
johnbuckley Posted December 1, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2006 I've been waiting for the moment to ask this: I have the SD20. Do I need to upgrade to the SD24 for use with the M8? My primary use for a flash is daylight fill flash.
wattsy Posted December 1, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 1, 2006 I've been waiting for the moment to ask this: I have the SD20. Do I need to upgrade to the SD24 for use with the M8? My primary use for a flash is daylight fill flash. The SF24D will allow you to use TTL/GNC mode. With the SF20 you are restricted to manual and 'auto' modes (which may be an issue for you). The bigger difference for me is that the newer flash is more flexible in terms of manual output and can be dialled down to a much lower output than the SF20. cbretteville Posted December 1, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2006 My S24D came with a clip-on diffuser. Woody, Mine came with wide angle and 'tele' attachments are these the ones you're referring to? - Carl
ho_co Posted December 1, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2006 Woody-- Interestingly, the folks who make the SFILL even recommend using the wide-angle diffuser that comes with the SF24D along with their product. --HC
mwilliamsphotography Posted December 1, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2006 That's how I've always used mine. In addition they come with an amber filter to place in the W/A clip-on so you can shoot fill in tungsten lighting.
