carbonadam Posted November 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering when everyone thinks the M9 will be readily available everywhere? When will someone be able to to into B&H and buy one off the shelf?
Advertisement Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Hi carbonadam, Take a look here When will the M 9 Be available everywhere?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
frank_dernie Posted November 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2009 If you mean in stock in every dealer, probably never. Here in the UK very few dealers would actually have such an item in stock, even if readily available. If you mean when will Leica have fulfilled the pent-up demand, I expect nobody knows, since it is difficult even for a manufacturer to know demand, even after release, since quite a few potential customers may have ordered from several dealers, planning to cancel the others when the first arrived, meaning even counting existing orders will give the wrong data. Mine came after about 6 weeks. I had intended to wait a while, but was too impatient in the end. Production capacity is fixed, instant training and then redundancy of the required technicians would be impractical even if ethical. I believe the S2 has been delayed whilst production concentrates on the M9.

When will someone be able to to into B&H and buy one off the shelf? Probably around this time next year, by then you may either want to save money on a used one or save up for the 9.2. The current estimate of being able to walk into a good dealer and walk out with an M9 with no pre-order is sometime around April or May. Baptiste Posted November 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 24, 2009 The current estimate of being able to walk into a good dealer and walk out with an M9 with no pre-order is sometime around April or May. David If it is so, that's a good news (means I won't wait for mine no longer that than). I have heard that there were someth like 12 000 orders around the world. Assuming that Leica is producing 50 M9 a day, makes around 1000 units a month... Then for the 12 000 orders, they'll need the entire year. I'm probably missing some points, like favor the M9 production line against any other... David, if I dare, how did you come to that number?
nemeng Posted November 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 25, 2009 My estimate of being able to go online and buy an M9 from (say) BH Photovideo or PopFlash would be around June/July (not too far off David's estimate). As for making 50x of these cameras a day - I don't think so. I bet there have been weeks recently when they haven't shipped a single unit. Not that it bothers me anymore. Spent my digital money this year on a different camera. =) May pick up a used M9 in a couple of years or so.
