scc Posted December 31, 2009 Share #41 Posted December 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd really like to see a 'Favourites' menu in the lens selection menu. This could pop up a screen of only lenses that you have whenever an uncoded lens is mounted. Coded lenses would override this and not bring up any menu, or perhaps just briefly identify themselves as a focal length / type on the screen. TacTZilla Posted January 2, 2010 Share #42 Posted January 2, 2010 I'd like the option to set the exposure compensation 'on the fly' by using the jog wheel pleeeeeease. B
Steve Fines Posted January 2, 2010 Share #43 Posted January 2, 2010 I'd like the option to set the exposure compensation 'on the fly' by using the jog wheel pleeeeeease. B I have just spoked with the folks at Solms, and have had them beam this function into your firmware. I don't have my camera handy, but take another look at the manual - I have my M9 set up to adjust exp comp this way.
TacTZilla Posted January 2, 2010 Share #44 Posted January 2, 2010 Ooooh! A big cyber manhug for you. You made my day. Just set that up and it works well. I knew I shouldn't have used the instructions to light my log burner. I'm terrible. I should read them, but other things get in the way. Many thanks for the heads up. ggits Posted January 3, 2010 Share #45 Posted January 3, 2010 I wish for FirmWare update covering some solution on EV and shutter lock, like this: The 4 buttons on the wheel. Use them as "lock/unlock shutter speed" & "Step up EV" step down EV" & "Reset EV" In the display you would have dot above to indicate "lock/unlock shutter speed" and for EV up/down we have the two triangular - they could do signal blinking informing about each half step. And some hard needed update for WB
LondonM Posted January 3, 2010 Share #46 Posted January 3, 2010 And one other thing. I haven't found yet a good reason for needing the 'left' and 'right' arrow buttons in any menu, other than for reviewing an image. So I'd like it possible to assign these to exposure compensation -/+ . Other than setting it in the 'Set' menu I find using the dial for exposure compensation awkward (I must need an extra joint in my thumb) and particularly in cold weather or with gloves on. Steve Hear hear ! I am bouble jointed in my right thumb and I still have awkwardness with the dial for exp comp. It's just not natural. The buttons would be waaay better. scc Posted January 3, 2010 Share #47 Posted January 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great idea for the arrow keys - makes a lot of sense. I wonder if Leica is listening... I suspect not.
sfokevin Posted January 3, 2010 Share #48 Posted January 3, 2010 I would go one step further... Make all 4 arrow buttons user programmable... when the camera is in picture taking mode (On & no screen active) the users preselected options are available... downstairs Posted January 4, 2010 Share #49 Posted January 4, 2010 Drop the shameful "Vintage B&W" setting.
scc Posted January 4, 2010 Share #50 Posted January 4, 2010 Drop the shameful "Vintage B&W" setting. And replace it with a "Holga" setting !
jklotz Posted January 5, 2010 Share #51 Posted January 5, 2010 I'd love to be able to change ISO with the turn wheel, like you can with the EV comp now. That way, I could go up or down without having to take my eye from the camera.
thrice Posted January 6, 2010 Share #52 Posted January 6, 2010 I'd love to be able to change ISO with the turn wheel, like you can with the EV comp now. That way, I could go up or down without having to take my eye from the camera. If you set your shutterspeed manually with Auto-ISO set and use the dial then that is exactly what you're doing. chris_tribble Posted January 6, 2010 Share #53 Posted January 6, 2010 As I waited for a card to format earlier today, my main request for the firmware is that a stable update is released soon! I'm sure that Leica's been addressing the priority issues first time round (red shift on some wides, format speed). Those are what I need now. Other things would be lovely, but they can come as a spring gift...
wattsy Posted January 7, 2010 Share #54 Posted January 7, 2010 Those are what I need now. Other things would be lovely, but they can come as a spring gift... Yes, agreed. I've become sufficiently cheesed off with the various M9 shortcomings that I've gone back to using my M8s for jobs. Even allowing for filters and the cropped sensor, the M8 with latest firmware seems much more 'robust' for commercial work.
chris_tribble Posted January 8, 2010 Share #55 Posted January 8, 2010 Ian - sorry that the M9 feels that bad for you - not the case for me ... though I rarely shoot wider than 28. What's the killer issue for you? From my perspectives, and all respects apart from card formatting and the red-shift on very wide I really don't have any issues with the M9. I certainly wouldn't want to go back the the M8s... I find handling, interface and IQ all highly satisfactory ...
carbonadam Posted January 11, 2010 Share #56 Posted January 11, 2010 can we get a liquid nitrogen option in the next hardware update?
chris_tribble Posted January 12, 2010 Share #57 Posted January 12, 2010 Any more forecasts on when this might be available? It's now 12 January. I reckon they must be back at work in Solms by now...
wattsy Posted January 12, 2010 Share #58 Posted January 12, 2010 Ian - sorry that the M9 feels that bad for you - not the case for me ... though I rarely shoot wider than 28. What's the killer issue for you? I was being a bit disingenuous. In truth I am reverting to the M8s because my M9 has gone back to Solms to have the rangefinder re-calibrated (currently front focussing). That said, I quite welcome the relative speed of the M8 (formatting, zooming), the utilitarian black chrome finish and the little top plate LCD so that I can see the battery level at a glance. That is one thing one never knows beforehand - in general,it has to survive beta testing or go back to the drawing board. I'm sure that that goes for the M9 update as well. chris_tribble Posted January 12, 2010 Share #60 Posted January 12, 2010 I'll agree with you on the black chrome - paint's a decision I'll never understand... but for the rest, I love working with the M9 (despite the slow format etc... ) Hence my hope for the new firmware sooner than later! Heigh ho... at least I don't seem to have focus issues on either of my bodies
