ijporter Posted November 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Driving from Stoke-on-Trent to Buxton, I came to Morridge Top and its magnificent views. It was quite cool, with a gusty wind and the the sun was poking through the clouds that were being moved along quite quickly. I had a wait a few minutes before everything came together, but I liked the effect. What I didn't like was my R6 occasionally failing to operate - the mirror would lock up, but the shutter wouldn't fire - (especially) in cooler weather. Eventually the mirror would release and the shutter would fire, but I lost five shots before this one worked. Sometimes, if twiddling the shutter-speed dial wouldn't cause it to fire, I had to remove the lens and release the mirror manually - not good for that frame of film! Initially I thought it might be a gummy mirror bearing, but I now wonder if it might be the shutter preparing to die. When I get some time and cash, I'll send it off for servicing. Advertisement Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Hi ijporter, Take a look here Morridge Top, Staffordshire. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted November 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2006 Ian, nice shot, I'm a great one for suggesting alternative crops, so I have to say that much as I like this, I prefer it with the sky cropped out. Just my viewpoint, feel free to disagree :-) Sorry to hear about the R6, time for it to be serviced I guess.
azzo Posted November 30, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 30, 2006 This image is extremely well caught Ian. Well done. ps NOT a total crop, in my opinion Steve, i'd say, just above the hill on the left. Best Azzo
elansprint72 Posted November 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 30, 2006 Whoah! Nice "bright spot", as we don't say in England. Worth waiting for that patch of light; this place is not too far from me and did you know that there is a place called Sydney not 25 miles away from there? Cheers, Pete. jmr Posted November 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 30, 2006 Ian, Lovely light, colour and composition - such a wonderful result must make all the hassle worthwhile.
ijporter Posted December 1, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted December 1, 2006 Thanks for the advice - I think you're each right about the crop: it would help the image which ever choice was made. Part of me likes the 'focus' of the 'no sky' option, but having a horizon and a bit of sky also gives a sense of completeness to the landscape. I suppose you could say that it's good to be in a 'win-win' situation! I didn't know that there's a Sydney nearby - I can tell you that I would have much preferred the travel time to that Sydney instead of to my Sydney - 23 hours sitting next to a noisy 747 galley is not fun!
