mjm6 Posted November 23, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, That software is new to me, so I may not have done it correctly. I'll look into it more tonight and see what I can figure out. I did initialize it but it couldn't see anything on the SD card, so it may not have been working properly. That was when the camera was set for PTP. I;ll look into getting it set up with the camera in mass storage mode and see if it works better. BTW, I'm in 10.5 if I recall correctly. Thanks, ---Michael
Advertisement Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Hi mjm6, Take a look here Dowloading through M9 USB port problem. Anyone else?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
footsurg Posted November 23, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 23, 2009 Gentlemen, I'm having the same problems with my Mac and M9 and am using 10.5.8. But, the camera is such a great piece of equipment, I'm tolerating the download problem....for now. I think we need a write-in campaign. swamiji Posted November 23, 2009 Share #23 Posted November 23, 2009 I for myself, wish Leica would do away the USB port. Tethering a Rangefinder, to me, seems silly (I tried it with Mac OS 10.4 and found it pointless (no preview/Camera controls)), and the battery life is short enough that to upload a full 32g SD card would be problematic. An external/internal SD card reader is (again to me) the only option. That way you can upload with one card and shoot with a second...
MacSpikes Posted November 23, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 23, 2009 Had the same trouble here. Nothing too serious though. Set the M9 to PTP and import using Apple's built in Image Capture App. That does the trick and works as simple as dragging and dropping using the Finder. Works for me, because I do not like importing with LR or CaptureOne Pro. I want to make my own folders and don't like automated scripts.
wlaidlaw Posted November 23, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 23, 2009 Many of us have banged on about this until we risk inducing total boredom. Downloading images via a cable, especially images as big as the M9 generates, is not a good idea. Your images can become corrupted and/or lost and if the battery goes too low during the transfer process, that can cause problems both at the camera/SD card end and at the computer. Please use cable as an emergency process only. Otherwise use a built in card slot on your laptop or a card reader. You will find a card reader far faster anyway. I have found the Sandisk Mobile Mate or Micro Mate to be very reliable and fast for small portable readers and they only cost a few dollars. Often they are available as a package with a card or cards. Wilson
mjm6 Posted November 24, 2009 Share #26 Posted November 24, 2009 Wilson, I did get PTP and Image Capture to work last night, so that approach is certainly viable... I agree that the best approach is to pull the card and go direct, but the camera can be used in a pinch, as long as it can interface properly! It seems that it is semi-functional. ---Michael
