Hello there;

I took purchase an M8 last night, as well as a CV 28mm Ultron f2. So far, all I can say is wow, wow and wow!!!

I'm a previous owner of a Digilux 3 and I was quite happy with it. However, with seeing all the fame of the M8, reviews, comments, write-up's, i just had to have it. So, I traded my Digilux plus some lenses and cash for an M8 with the above lens.

My first impressions are exactly what I had imagined. The "THING" is built like a tank, looks absolutely stunning (all black), and with the few shots I have taken, I could not be more impressed. Obviously, I have quite a bit of learning. However, I am definitely up to it. I'm thinking my next lens will probably be a 50 Lux pre-asph, then perhaps a CV 15 and then a Cron 75. What do you think?

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the filter because of finances, but, I'm thinking I'll get one next week. I did take some pics of black material, and I saw immediately the red hue. So, for now, I'll just stick with outdoor shots and some basic street stuff. But, the quality is just absolutely amazing. I can't wait to start learning with this beast.

So, hello fellow M8 owners!!!

Congratulations on your purchase! I just purchased my mint used M8.2 two weeks ago with a new summicron 50mm and 35mm lens. I find my experience so far very similar to yours. The pictures I have taken just seem fantastic and I am so happy I made the purchase. I really like the feel of the camera in my hand and really love the pictures I have taken. I keep my manual handy and have read through it about 7-8 times already trying to learn as much as I can about the camera options. I still have lots of learning to do, but I am a very happy owner as well.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

How do you find the Ultron 28/2? I have the same lens but I'm not fully satisfied with it.

Are you happy with the way it focus? Did you notice any focus shift?

You know you can permanently code it because of the groove in the mount.

The CV 15 is a stunning lens, when the moments come, I suggest you to get the last model rangefinder coupled.

Hey Enrico and surfermark.

Enrico, I really can't answer your question yet as to what I think about the Ultron 28mm, I haven't had enough experience with it as of yet to make a call on it. I'll definitely need a couple more days to play around with it. But, I've done quite a bit of reading up on this lens, and, I hear mostly great things about it. Apparently, Sean Reid is a huge fan of this particular lens (although, I am not a subscriber.....yet). However, I do want to thank you for your kind words:)

Surfermark, looks like both yourself and I have some playing around. Let the good times roll!!!

Welcome and congrats with your new purchase. I have the same set up and also some other CV lenses.

The 28 2.0 is performing good on my M8 taking into account the price of the lens. Color is good, my copy does not suffer back focus problems, coded as a Summicron I did'nt notice cyan corners upto now, but I do find it in general to be a little soft. This can be corrected when processing the dng files. I only shoot dng and develop with C One 4.8.3.

Enjoy your camera and lens and lots of fun with it.

Best

Welcome!

About filters, well I do not use any myself.

I simply don't care about blacks being purple.

Anyway my favourite lenses are the 28 (=35) and a CV 15 (=21).

The 15 in particular is extremely good (I do not use the external viewfinder as the view in the M8 finder is about the right extension).

This is what I have tried so far:

CV28 f1.9 good

CV15 f4.5 excellent

L 35 f2 excellent

L 50 f2 good

L 28 f2.8 ASP good

The filters are not just about synthetic blacks looking purple. Try shooting under tungsten indoor lighting with and without the IR/UV filter and you'll quickly see what I mean. Cheers. -Norm
