RRRemiz Posted November 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi to all! I have one question about Leica's R4s exposure meter.... Can i shot with a long time exposure, longer than 1sec? For example - on night time, when the values on the measure meter is not enough (max 1sec) to show exposure time, i try to choose an automatic mode, then i shot... and the shutter was open about few seconds and it was really more than 1sec... and i can't understand, was it right exposure? and can i use this option to shot in pure light (when the values on the measure meter isn't enought to show definite value in seconds)?? Thanks.

earleygallery Posted November 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2009 Night time photography is more a case of trial and error. Your R4 will meter for the scene as it reads it and it will be skewed by any bright lights in the scene (on auto the shutter will stay open for longer than 1 second but I'm not sure on the maximum - check your handbook - probably something like 10-30 seconds). If its a brightly lit scene you might be OK trying a shot metered by the camera, then bracket. With darker scenes use a cable release and try different times like 10, 20, 30seconds etc. Of course it depends on your film and aperture.
