KM-25 Posted November 19, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Film, on the other hand, is atrocious. I simply cannot use it for anything serious. For me, film belongs to the past -- after half a century using it. Wow, can I see some samples of your work in both mediums to see the difference it has made? I am preparing my self for being blown away, lets see what you've got:
Advertisement Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Hi KM-25, Take a look here Sell MP 0.72 for M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lightpainter Posted November 22, 2009 Author Share #22 Posted November 22, 2009 Thanks for all your comments and advice. I think I'll keep my MP at least for a while but will sell my 50Lux asph because I definitely do not use it much on my M8 since I have got the Nocti as well and take that along for the situations with just a little light. I think the MP will definitely be Leica's last camera for film, and I do agree that there is still some magic to good scans of B/W film. So if I keep it and go back to film the money I get from the 50Lux might go into an Imacon 343.
SteveYork Posted November 22, 2009 Share #23 Posted November 22, 2009 Don't sell your MP! You'll regret it. I sold my backup MP to help fund a Leicaflex system for some nature trips. The Leicaflex SL and SL2 are great cameras, but I regret selling the MP. They should only appreciate in value, due to a combination of price increases or discontinuation. It's hard to find used ones on the market. But having said all that, if you're not using it after a year or so, maybe you should pass it on to someone who will. Digital is great, but the digital image is very different. There's no reason you can't do both.
Rolo Posted November 22, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 22, 2009 Don't sell your MP! You'll regret it. Can see he's decided to keep it for a while, which is a good decision, but keeping the 50 Lux would have been equally good. I can have any camera and lenses I want, within my 'sensible' requirements, but I can't have them all and that's the dilemma here. Last week sold my 3 month old M8, which I don't regret at all, and on Friday I sold my M7, which I deeply regret. Regardless of the regret, I need the funds for something else and if these didn't go then I'd be unable to move on. If it's any consolation to the OP, I kept my black MP. jjjjuin Posted November 23, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 23, 2009 never and ever consider to sell MP. but M9.. well,, it's just a step to M 10 or ...
SteveYork Posted November 24, 2009 Share #26 Posted November 24, 2009 I do still load my M4 occasionally and make some shots, simply as an exercise in nostalgia. The M4 is such a lovely piece of work. Film, on the other hand, is atrocious. I simply cannot use it for anything serious. For me, film belongs to the past -- after half a century using it. Film has a different look, which I prefer. I can't stand the clinical incisiveness of digital. Some day I may go that route, but it will because of practical and economic reasons. doug_m Posted November 28, 2009 Share #28 Posted November 28, 2009 Lightpainter, Do not sell the 50 lux ASPH. I am almost certain you will regret it.
Paul Hart Posted November 28, 2009 Share #29 Posted November 28, 2009 I wonder if the MP as the "classic" Leica is going to keep its value or if sooner or later I will lose a lot of money there. If you really want to know what losing money is like, buy an M9 (or anything digital). Values are temporarily firm while supply is low and novelty value high, but the law of digital depreciation will bite very soon.

luigi bertolotti Posted November 28, 2009 Share #31 Posted November 28, 2009 I have a beautiful and (since i got the M8) rarely used MP chrome (10 rolls of film maximum) that i got together with a Summilux 1.4/50 asph (not 6-bit, new the box). The lens is simply great but i do not use it much on my M8 because of the crop factor. I mostly use a 35lux on that one. The 50lux is ideal for the MP, on the other hand. Since the M9 came out, i have been thinking about selling these two items because that will be more than half the ticket for an M9. I wonder if the MP as the "classic" Leica is going to keep its value or if sooner or later I will lose a lot of money there. Besides, I am not too sure films and good labs will be available for a long time. Have you ever lived through that struggle between keeping and selling? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. YES I do NOW : I could easily finance M9 selling old bodies and lenses which I definitely won't use (what about an Alpine Elmar on M8 ? Or a "fat" Elmar 90 ? Or a Hektor 7,3 cm ?... ) : but I love that gear, simply... is the M9 worth that loss ? Uncertain.... So, which are your sentiments about MP ? It will retain a value in time, but I think there is no reason for it will go skyrocketing... so this can be a good moment to sell it, about the same it will be in 1-2 years or so... BUT: do not sell the Lux 50 : whatever is your buying decision on M9 NOW, surely ONE DAY you'll buy a 24x36 Digital M (unless you'll decide to end up with Leicas) and is difficult that day there will be a better 50. theendlesshouse Posted November 29, 2009 Share #32 Posted November 29, 2009 Glad your keeping the MP, the iconic culmination of many years of precision engineering, Sensor technology being what it is in a year or two the m9 will be old hat. I could get a new MP and a SH M8 for the cost of the M9.
