Rolo Posted November 17, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My assistant Derek, who's one of the world very best wedding photographers used his flash dome diffusing kit on his Canon EOS 1Ds Mk47 and made a better job of it than me. Embarrassing really, but one can't always be the best. See his here: Derek Pye Photography - For those following this thread with a slow internet connection here's a pic showing the effect of his Cathedral Dome. His site shows more of the same. Well, the same, but different, if you know what I meant. No way can you do this with a Leica. Need a Metz adapter, methinks. Welcome, dear visitor! wparsonsgisnet Posted November 17, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 17, 2009 You guys need to lighten up! You're gonna give yourselves an envy attack, if you're not careful. Nice, Rolo.
jaapv Posted November 17, 2009 Share #23 Posted November 17, 2009 Thís is a total disaster! Leica is generations behind in sensor technology. Why are they sticking with slow 1000 Mp sensors when Canon has analog biogrowth sensors that resolve infinitely! Surely they can overcome a slight chlorophyl cast with an AWB tweak! ShyTot Posted November 17, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 17, 2009 I'm not a Pro and shoot for my own pleasure. Leica got the pricing of the M12 completely wrong and hundreds of pros I know find it just too expensive. It’s not just the camera body, its the case and strap and everything else needed to look good. I’ll manage without it, thanks. okram Posted November 17, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 17, 2009 Everything went wrong since Kyocera-SSangYong bought the company from Stefan Daniels, and Peter Karbe crossed over to Sonykon.
doug_m Posted November 17, 2009 Share #26 Posted November 17, 2009 I'll tell you what -the M12 and Trinocti 28-50-90 is a really great combo. However, I'm seeing purple fringing at f0.5 on the 28m setting. It goes away when processed with LTRM 5 but its still very annoying. You'd think that for $25,000 Leica would get it right- even if the lens does weigh a mere 350 grams.
swamiji Posted November 17, 2009 Share #27 Posted November 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) When are they going to institute the Prima Dona chip, the S5 is supposed to have it. It includes hologramatic multipathing.
bill Posted November 17, 2009 Share #28 Posted November 17, 2009 Hello. I have just bought a minty M11... what lense should I buy to go with it? I am torn between a noctinoctnoctinoctilux and an old 5cm LTM Nickel Elmar. Will I notice a difference when shooting my cat? Oh. And when photographing lots of people marching and playing wind instruments together I am experiencing brass banding... Regards, Bill
M'Ate Posted November 17, 2009 Author Share #29 Posted November 17, 2009 Why I'll always buy Leica. Quality is superb. A month ago I was bivouacking on a ledge on Half Dome with my buddy. It was his turn to make the coffee and carelessly he knocked the camera bag out of the tent. We had time to watch his Canon pro and my M12 fall 4000 feet. On impact, his Canon just exploded into a thousand pieces. The next day I located my M12 and the shutter still worked. Unfortunately it was 4ft away from the body, but that’s just a detail. At least, whilst he got nothing, I got a nice brass plate out of the incident.
AlanJW Posted November 17, 2009 Share #30 Posted November 17, 2009 I completely agree with the prior posters. But the thing that gets me is Leica's arrogance in charging $19,500 for the body only when it is such an incremental change from the M11. I for one am hauling out my Nikon F3 and going back to film (don't we all have a stash in the refrigerator); I'll also use my Bessa L, which in many ways is just sooo much purer a camera than the M12. ro8881 Posted November 17, 2009 Share #31 Posted November 17, 2009 Just sold my M9 on ebay. some guy bought that old piece of junk for $998,000. Now I just need t to top up 1000 to buy the M12!

I paid the premium for the 'no paint' version with the SuperGlue sticky vinyl cover.
jaapv Posted November 17, 2009 Share #33 Posted November 17, 2009 I handled one for two minutes in the shop and I can tell you from my vast experience with it that it is a crap camera. Not only does it have a yellow colour cast in all its images because cosmic radiation is filtered inadequately, the rangefinder misfocussed by at least 0.2 mm!! How a camera that is supposed to be a demonstrator ever managed to get past QC is beyond me. It means that we will have to return nearly every camera for adjustment to customer service in Lunatic City, and it will take months to even get it back! wparsonsgisnet Posted November 17, 2009 Share #36 Posted November 17, 2009 Bill, the brass banding bit is terrific. Nicely done. Will images from the M12 be eligible for the Leica Forum book? We can get the special holographic paper for that image only, right?
AndyAitken Posted November 17, 2009 Share #37 Posted November 17, 2009 I can't get over the price of the new M12 US$12,000? What are Leica thinking - that's almost 2,000 euro for chrisakes!
@bumac Posted November 17, 2009 Share #38 Posted November 17, 2009 I am still using my M6 with films from the yard-sales, waitig for the M14. I hope Leica will improve all the problems we are seing today.
pharyngula Posted November 17, 2009 Share #39 Posted November 17, 2009 The M12 really makes me long for the simplicity of the first digital M - the M8. So thank you very much, I'll pass on the M12 and look for a good, lovingly worn (brassy) version of the M8. I'm sorry I sold my M8 many years ago. It was a real workhorse and I took very many fine photos with it. The crop factor really aided my composition and the UV/IR cut filters added a welcome personality quirk that all subsequent digital M's lacked. Lifeless and soul-less: the epitome of the new M12. No thanks. I'm not even sure it is truly "made" in Germany.
swamiji Posted November 17, 2009 Share #40 Posted November 17, 2009 I'm not even sure it is truly "made" in Germany. Germany.... I thought it merged into the European States decades ago... Considering the time between each Leica M model... I will be turning 115 next month
