Leica M12 problems

I want to go on record as being the first person to whine about the M12.

It's a complete let down for me. The body/lens self-adjustment system requires that I have a Mac computer and the software's not available on my iPhone.

I abandoned computer imaging with the M11 and now, like most Leica users never print, just use the 4" screen on the back of the camera, and my iPhone to share.

What happened to Leica ?? Are they no longer in touch ??

I think they've rushed this product to market and it's an interim model. It's diabolical that the M11's golden pearl paint finish has been dropped for this lime green sparkly. Plus, the radio transmitter doesn't work anywhere near as well as my 2 year old Nikon does. Think I made a mistake sticking with Leica.

Please post this on the M12 forum.

This is the M9 Forum

That crossed my mind, but see little reason to add another section when the content remains the same.

Has anybody tried the new 35mm Superlux. I'm getting colour fringing at f0.78 and it's much worse wide open. The bundled Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom don't have lens profiles yet, but I hear Capture 3 reduces the problem with a Macbeth card. The 14mm Summilux is near perfect.

So pleased I can use my Visoflex again.

The M12 is good but it's just an interim measure and there is so much about it that is just not right. The firmware leaves a lot to be desired. Where is the face recognition and "street" mode that we were promised? And when will they support Ultravioletooth? The SSongyang DSLRs have had that for years.

I'm waiting for the M14.

Regards,

Bill

Wish I'd have done that, would have saved so much aggravation.

I know a beta tester in Malta and he tells me it's much better although the 90mb files are slow to download. Think Sean has one as well.

I hear Leica have booked Harry Potter for the Launch. Hope I get an invite.

I'll take an existing M16 and sort you out if you don't stop taking the p*ss

;)

( I wonder if there will be legal issues if Leica ever get to want to build an M16? )

.....no need M16

ask the MI5 spooks from the Thames House - they looking for work....

What I want to know is why Reid's review of the M12 failed to mention the obvious spatial distortion at the edges of the 3D movies? If Leica had implemented 3D movies in the M11, as we had hoped, these problems would be solved by now. As a working pro, the M12 is now useless to me--as my clients demand edge-to-edge spatial nondistortion in all 3d renderings. This is not pixel peeping--it is a real world problem for those of us who are trying to use the M12 as a tool to earn a living.

--------- :D --------- :D ------------ :D

Thank you, Iso.

Sorry, but I'm fully committed to the M12. Ever since Leica incorporated the Abrahamsson Rotating Lens Turret, 3rd version, into the S Mode firmware I've never missed a shot.

Fit the lenses, set the Turret on Wedding Mode and stand back. Camera never fails to select the right lens and expose at the correct moment. The additional post processing is a small price to pay.

Some people think interest in the M12 is waning due to distribution problems. BHadorama has received only 575 cameras, and it's already been 2 weeks since the announcement. I realize Leica is a small company, but even Olympus managed to have their EP-37 widely available by zeppelin drop within hours of the announcement.

M12 is a complete let down in this respect, but the noise reduction with the jammie profile is almost useable, IMHO.

Here's a pic that I took at a recent wedding during a complete power cut. This cutting of the cake shot was difficult enough because of the Uncle Bob's.

The bride wasn't too pleased with the shot, but it is my 'Reportedge' style and that was in the contract - shoot it as it is, but the noise levels are acceptably low, IMO.

Here's a 100% crop.

Not acceptable, but getting better as the Profiles are released.
