wilfredo Posted November 19, 2009 Share #81 Posted November 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder how the new crazy unregulated credit card interest rate increases in the U.S. will affect M9 sales? I canceled two credit cards this week. I'm fed up with the fleecing of the American consumer by our banking institutions. BTW, I called Samys camera in Santa Ana, CA. and asked about seeing a demo M9 and the person I spoke to made it clear they won't have one for a very long time. He said that Leica is only making one shipment of M9's to the entire U.S. per month. I have no interest in purchasing the M9, I'm happy with the M8, but I would like to check one out, hands on. adan Posted November 19, 2009 Share #82 Posted November 19, 2009 It's one shipment per week to the US, actually - but Samy's may not get one out of every shipment. Depends on how many get allotted to the rep for California, and how he allots them to the stores he services (probably based on date of order). Limiting sales to people who can actually afford what they're buying could be disastrous to a lot more companies than just Leica.
andybarton Posted November 19, 2009 Share #84 Posted November 19, 2009 What are US credit card interest rates at the moment? UK card rates are between 16 and 19%, unless you signed up to a "base rate for life" card, 20 years ago like I did

I agree, and that is not the American way to actually have the money to pay for something. I would hate for a free lunch to stop ever.
massimom Posted November 19, 2009 Share #86 Posted November 19, 2009 Placed my order with Adorama on Sept. 10th. Got the runaround for 8 weeks and cancelled it Gave an order to my local camera store in Stamford CT and received it within about 2 1/2 weeks....with a cracked IR filter over the sensor!! Incredible. They sent it back to NJ on a Friday and had a replacement within three days. Top notch service from Leica there.

I got a debit card secured by a revolving $10K note at a fixed rate at 6% at my local bank. When the note starts to run low I pay it off and start over. I use it just like my old Capital One card that I told them to shove up their arse.
Mokkacream Posted November 19, 2009 Share #89 Posted November 19, 2009 Not only did I find there to be only slight improvement in high-ISO, The improvement is about 2 stops and in my opinion more than "slightly" I was actually put off by the incomplete resolution of the IR issue with no in-camera provision for using front IR filters when needed, I haven't experienced any IR problems with the M9 so far. by the deletion of the top screen, is that really that important, not to choose the M9 ??? and by the reversion to the tighter 1m framelines Leica decided to go back to the 1m calibrated lines because of uniformity. All Leica analog cameras (which are "FF") are adjusted to 1m. The only exeption was the non FF M8.2. Furthermore, the most photos with the a FF M are typically not taken with focus on 1m distance, so that the higher accuracity at 1m is of lesser interest for most FF M photographers. They have discussed this subject extensively and consciously made this decison and will not change it anymore. FF alone is just not enough of an issue to compel me to such a large expense. Right, but the much higher image quality IS. I firmly believe that an upgraded version that revises some or all of those issues is right around the corner, and a truly improved version (new sensor) is not that far off. Wrong. There will be a firmware update soon, which will solve a lot of known problems. There won't be any hardware updates or upgrades in the near future.Later there will be additional options such as an optional sapphire glas. There might come a sapphire glas as standard when the sensor prices will drop in the future. It's too expensive at the moment. Wasn't you already complaining about the high costs of the M9? Mokkacream Posted November 19, 2009 Share #90 Posted November 19, 2009 So I expect a number of second-think non-buyers will return, when the M9 will have found its way into photographers' circles. Agree. Just wait until the next firmware upgrade. Lots of issues will be already solved then.

Hi Andreas so succinctly put - I quite agree - if you want a full frame digital rangefinder then the M9 fits the bill, and spending lots of R&D and marketing dollars to bring out another one . . . when you have no competition . . seems like an unlikely venture. innerimager Posted November 20, 2009 Share #92 Posted November 20, 2009 I guess I represent a net gain in interest. I was on a list but thinking I'd wait for financial considerations. Got the call today, sold both of my M8s and my M9 (steel grey) arrives tomorrow. best...Peter

James R Posted November 20, 2009 Share #94 Posted November 20, 2009 Steve Huff now thinks there will be a 9.2 in a year or so to correct the LCD display, add a sapphire screen, and improve the SD card write times. Another idea that could impact early sales.

arthury Posted November 20, 2009 Share #96 Posted November 20, 2009 My dealer had a black one and I told him to give it to the next person. If I were going to spend $7K, it better be perfect in every angle I use it or look at it. The more I think about it, the more unlikely I will get it. I just bought the D3X a few weeks ago and I am happy as a clam. There are no issues to worry about except where is my next location shooting.

SD card write times will improve with the next firmware and sapphire screen will be offered as a retrofit at price difference to current users, too. - Not sure what he needs to see corrected on his LCD display. I think that the issue with the LCD is not so much the LCD itself but the rendering of the image. I know I find that previewing an image on the LCD it looks softer than what I get from either the JPG or unadjusted RAW in the converter.
gwelland Posted November 20, 2009 Share #100 Posted November 20, 2009 Carrying a credit card balance to purchase a camera is generally unwise. Ditto. I decided a LONG time ago that camera gear was a cash only purchase for me. Nothing sucks more than paying long after the fact for something you bought a while ago IMHO.
